There’s nothing I want more than a life with him… but my past is the world’s worst wingman.
For a big chunk of my life, I expected to die along with the rest of my species. Nobody thought we’d make it, and I did my best to live in the now and enjoy every second of precious life.
Now that’s coming back to bite me in the ass.
Because the impossible happened, and we got our second chance. A safe home. A tomorrow worth planning for. And a future I want to spend with Dáithí.
He’s amazing—sassy, clever, the kind of guy who can cut you down with one eyebrow and still make you laugh. We’ve known each other a long time, and convincing him to date me was one of the best wins of my long life. Convincing him to be my boyfriend? That’s a fight I might not win.
Because the reputation I earned when I was living life to the fullest has stuck, and Dáithí’s convinced I’m only in this for a good time, not a long time. He’s protecting his heart from future damage by keeping things casual between us… even though they’re not.
How do I prove I want him forever?
REVIEW:
Disclaimer: This is book 2 in the Elf Magic series. So, you will need to read book one, if you have not already done so. With this book, we have another wonderful addition to the Hidden Species multiverse. It helps if you have read the previous series in this multiverse, as some characters from these previous series appear in this story.
The world building is once again stellar, not that I expect anything less from Louisa. More fun to be had in this great multiverse she has created.
As always, character development is detailed and enlightening. We meet Eoin and Daithi, who at this point have been having a bit of a friends with benefits relationship or a situationship. What made this one really special is being able to revisit so many characters from the previous series. Eoin is the head of security for Brandt, the Wing leader of the dragons and Daithi works for the king of the Elves, Radulfr. As friends and colleagues join to help convince Daithi of Eoin’s true intentions, we get guest appearances from Alistair, Noah, Andrew, Caolan, Ari and more.
In only Louisa Masters fashion, can she bring humor, love and shenanigans to our couple. In a wonderfully crafted story, we get to see the progression of their relationship. We also get to experience the toll emotional baggage can take on a couple. With the help of their friends and colleagues, Eoin undertakes challenges set forth by the “Summit of Love” to prove his affections and intentions are indeed real.
There’s a chance this may be getting out of Dáithí’s and my control, but I can’t make myself care when all my focus is needed to achieve my goal. I take the remaining handouts from Ari, keep one, and pass the few that are left to Dáithí, who glares at them like they’re radioactive and hands them off as fast as he can.
Interesting… and concerning.
It only takes one glance to see what annoys Dáithí: the heading. I press my lips together to keep from laughing.
“Summit of Love: The Epic Challenge,” Brandt reads, triggering a cascade of chuckles and chortles. “A Herculean trial to win the heart of an elf,” he continues, and a snort manages to escape me.
Dáithí’s elbow makes contact with my ribs. “Don’t laugh,” he hisses. “You’ll encourage them.”
I aim a skeptical glance around the table. The only people not laughing, aside from me and Dáithí, are Team Bro, who wear beatific smiles. “I think it’s too late for that.”
Will Eoin pass all of his challenges? Will Daithi overcome is millennia of baggage? Will Alistair woo more people over to “Team Bro”? Will the situationship become a relationship? Give it up, I’m not going to tell you. You know what to do if you want the answers to these pressing questions and more…
Another spectacular addition to the Elf Magic series and the multiverse Louisa has created. I almost forgot to mention; besides the humor and shenanigans, we have some super steamy sexy times… I highly recommend this second book in the Elf Magic series, and I insist you transport yourself as quickly as possible to your favorite eBook purchasing site and snatch up book two of this series. I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.
Till next time…
