REVIEW:
It’s been a long time since I stayed up late to finish a book in one sitting, but I absolutely loved this one. It’s definitely my favourite of all the Marian series.
This book is about Wolfe, the eldest son of Jude and Derek, and Derek’s best friend, Trace. Wolfe has had a crush on Trace since he was thirteen, but he’s long accepted that nothing will ever come of it. That doesn’t stop his heart from holding on to the longing and love he feels for Trace. And that isn’t the only secret he’s keeping. He’s also a famously reclusive songwriter under the pseudonym Fletcher Co. Every song he writes is about Trace, but no one knows it’s him, and no one knows who the songs are really about. He’s been doing it for so long that he has no idea how he’ll ever tell his parents—especially his dad, Jude, who is a world‑famous musician in his own right.
Six years ago, when Wolfe was twenty‑four, Trace realised he was developing feelings for him. Knowing his best friend’s son was completely off limits, he decided it was time to set up his search‑and‑rescue training camp a thousand miles away from Jude, Derek, and Wolfe in Legacy. After an encounter between Wolfe and Trace goes wrong, Wolfe decides he needs space and simply disappears. Eventually he starts letting his sister know he’s alive, but his dads are understandably worried and contact Trace. Trace can’t let Wolfe vanish; he has to know he’s safe. He sets off to find him, knowing he’d never forgive himself if something happened to Wolfe.
I don’t want to say any more about the plot—I’ve probably said too much already—but that’s only because I was excited and genuinely enjoyed every moment of reading it.
As you’d expect, there are cameos from the rest of the Marians. This book feels unique within the series; if any of the other couples had a storyline like this, I don’t remember it. It’s beautifully written, and I loved getting to understand all the layers of Wolfe.
This can be read as a standalone, but honestly, why would you want to? The joy of this book is even better when you already know and love the Marian world.
I’m already looking forward to the next book in the series.
