A warm welcome to authors Kelly Clemmons joining us today to talk abour their new Dreamspinner Press release “Druids Lodge”.
Hi everyone. We’re so happy to be here. We’d like to thank Love Bytes for our promo. We’re Kelly Clemmons, we’re kind of new around here. We, you say? Yes, we’re an English and American writing duo. We’ve been writing together for almost nine years now mostly for our own entertainment. Late bloomers when it comes to getting published.
Writing in itself is a challenge, but when you add in two voices, and two distinct visions, there are bound to be a few head on collisions. Fortunately the differences between the English and American language are minor, but some of the words and terminology have led to some amusing moments.
There is so much advice about writing available, but each author must follow the path that works best for them. That’s not to say the information isn’t good, but for new authors it can be overwhelming.
We write about things that interest us. We share a love for the paranormal and the supernatural, as well as fantasy. It’s truly amazing what a single picture, a song, or a newspaper article can inspire. I think our writing style can best be likened to a jigsaw puzzle where the pieces eventually fall into place.
We spend hours plotting and planning, but once we start to write everything changes. We each write a main character exclusively. We’ve been known to share secondary characters on occasion.
We are fortunate and thankful for the resources we as authors have available to us now. Lorraine spent hours watching videos of panthers to portray Finn in his cat form. Dartmoor is the home to many legends including the devil, spectral hounds, and the elusive Beast of Dartmoor, a large black cat sighted on the moors. Druids Lodge is the story of Finn Darcy, a werecat, and Luke Devlin, his unwilling mate.
Blurb:
What lurks in Dartmoor? After his father’s death, Finn Darcy returns to his ancestral home to become chief of his werecat clan. The mysterious Druids Lodge lies nestled in the shadows of Dartmoor National Park, where the legendary Beast of Dartmoor, a large panther, roams the woods and moors. Finn cannot take his place at the head of the clan before he claims his mate, Luke Devlin, the one he marked while still a child. Feeling he was deceived at the start of their relationship, Luke refuses to accept his fate. He bides his time, determined to escape when the opportunity presents itself before Finn’s jealous and possessive dual nature destroys everything they have left. But then werecats and their mates start disappearing, and Finn is adamant his mate must be protected at all cost. Events take a grim turn when Finn is abducted and forced to fight for his life. Luke must choose between his chance at freedom or saving Finn.
They locked the cage into place at the mouth of the long gated tunnel. Scents drifted to him: sweat, fear, perfume, cigar, and cigarette smoke. He twitched his tail in agitation as he restlessly swung his head from side to side. Noise echoed off the walls. He knew what happened next would define his time here. Adrenaline flooded his body. His reflexes sharpened and set his nerves on edge. Large cats fought only as a last resort. An injured cat couldn’t hunt or defend himself.
All too soon the door to his cage sprang open. He could play dumb and continue to sit there, but he’d rather get it over with. Get back to mate, the cat reminded him. He strolled down the length of the tunnel. The sounds and scents intensified: blood, fear, adrenaline, and testosterone.
The crowd cheered when he finally ventured forward. A look around confirmed his worst fears. This was nothing more than a fight pit. Sand covered the floor, dark in places from spilled blood and other bodily wastes. The scent of death filled the smoke-laden air. Above and around him, the guests, dressed in expensive suits and designer dresses, sat at tables and drank champagne. Finn held the cat in check. Patience.
Above, harsh floodlights illuminated the pit in all its gory glory. Finn prowled the perimeter. Although he knew there was no escape, he still searched it carefully. The lights dimmed, and when they brightened, a pack of wolves faced him. One darted behind the others, dribbling piss, tail tucked between its legs. Finn curled his lip at the pungent aroma and let loose a mighty roar. The other wolves sized him up, cunning yellow-brown eyes keen and eager. They split up and came at him from all sides. He released the cat.

Kelly Clemmons is the pen name of Lorraine Kelly and C.L. Clemmons. They met in an online fan chatroom and discovered a mutual love for all things books. Their friendship blossomed and they started writing together in 2007 for their own enjoyment. Thanks to Messenger and Skype, they were able to conspire almost daily. The seven-hour time difference led to many late-night and predawn writing sessions. Lorraine suggested it was time to take things further in 2013, and their first book was published in 2014. Writing has been their therapy through the ups and downs life has thrown at them. Their stories reflect very human struggles with the promise of better days ahead.
Lorraine was born and raised in Wiltshire, England surround by beautiful countryside and ancient history. She has a love of books and reads anything from witches and warlocks to shapeshifters, spy novels, and romance. Apart from reading and writing, Lorraine enjoys photography, TV, and exploring her native country.
C.L. was born and raised in a small town in Colorado. After high school she joined the Army. Her travels took her across the US and Europe. She witnessed the fall of the Berlin Wall.
