Missing spirits, a coven of Wiccans, and a sister and her family all hit McKinton at the same time. Laine doesn’t know who has stolen the spirits, but he’s going to find out.
Was it the well-meaning Wiccans? Or is there something more sinister at work in McKinton?
REVIEW:
Just over three years have passed since Severo Robledo came to McKinton to warn Sheriff Laine Stenley about his dead lover’s murderer coming for him.
Sev’s sister has just rung him wanting to know if they can visit! Sev’s family have done nothing but ostracize him and make him feel like there was something seriously wrong with him. He’s in for a huge surprise when they get to McKinton and Sev discovers that his nephew Rogelio-Ro, is gay. While Sev is trying to help his nephew, sister and their family come to grips with the fact there is nothing wrong with Ro being gay the Wiccan High Priestess, who happens to be Chris Neeland’s mother has decided to bless the Hawkins Senior and Youth Centre and has invited the High Priest to help, Sev realises that all of the spirits of McKinton have disappeared. Sev searches everywhere for them he even goes to the hospitals and retirement homes, which Sev hasn’t ever been able to stand spending time in, nothing.
Sev feels like he’s being pulled in a hundred different directions and yet he feels total devastation and loss at the complete silence in his head. Sev has never been alone, he has always heard spirits, hell, his parents had him committed to a mental institution when he was a child because they couldn’t deal with his psychic skills. So begins the towns struggle to get the spirits back from where they’ve been sent.
What Remains is the transition book in the Southern Spirits series. I have taken the title to mean what remains after all of the upheaval with both the spirits and the humans that live in McKinton? The spirits stories! You really need to read the entire Southern Spirits series.
