Bobby Merritt is a man with a goose and a past. Now they’re about to collide.
Bobby is the mayor of Goose Run, an eccentric entrepreneur, and a proud goose guardian. There aren’t too many things that can take Bobby by surprise, but running into Granger Kelley again is one of them.
Half a lifetime ago, Granger Kelley made the biggest mistake of his life. The last thing he expects when he arrives in Goose Run is to see Bobby again—and be attacked by his goose.
Twenty-five years is a lot of water under the bridge, but it’s no time at all when it comes to heartbreak. Can Bobby and Granger make it work this time around, or is romance a young man’s game?
Welcome to Goose Run, a small town full of quirky characters, big personalities, and unexpected romances. Just don’t ask about the goose.
Bobby Merritt Meets his Match is a novella set in the Goose Run universe. It also contains the short stories How to Kill a Couch, How to Meet a Parent, How to Rescue a Runaway, and How to Woo a Goose.
REVIEW:
Note: This is the fifth book in this series and as such has major spoilers for the previous books.
Booby Merritt is the Mayor of Goose Run. He’s owns half (or more) of the town too. He’s a fixture there along with his pet goose Lucille, who terrorizes the residents 😉 He takes care of the people and the town in a very unconventional way. He’s loud and proud and he’s not going anywhere. This is his origin story.
Granger Kelley is a successful Richmond lawyer. He and his family are a big deal. He’s been a lawyer for 25 years now and he goes back to Goose Run to take his niece and her girlfriend to his Uncle’s cabin on the lake outside of town. He hasn’t been back since a fateful trip with one of his fellow law school classmates. He’s been divorced three times and he takes a lot of ribbing from his niece Miranda and her girlfriend Emily. But it’s Goose Run Pride fest and he takes the girls there and actually goes to the fest with them. There he runs into the last person he ever thought he’d see again – that same law school classmate (and former lover) Bobby Merritt.
Granger is shocked to say the least. Bobby is actually pretty decent to him considering how they left things 25 years prior. Miranda and Emily sense something is up and they managed to squeeze the truth about his past from Granger. Waking up with a hangover, Granger knows he needs to make things right with Bobby. He’s just not sure how. Another day at the fest and he sees what a great town this is and that it’s because of Bobby.
Maybe Granger can finally decide to live his life authentically. But will Bobby actually give him a second chance??
OMG! I LOVED this sooo much. I was thrilled to get both Granger’s and Bobby’s POVs here and it made a lot of sense given the time and the place. How Bobby got to stay in town, his friendship with the town vet, Lucille’s origin story – it all just fits perfectly! If you love this series, you will thoroughly enjoy finding out how Bobby came to Goose Run and how and why he has made the town what it is. The bonus shorts that the authors included that take place around the couples in the first four books are charming and add a lot of context around those MCs as well. Just a perfect finale for a much loved series. I’m happy they have promised us glimpses of this quirky town and it’s inhabitants in the future! Brava ladies! A truly fitting sendoff to these beloved characters. Highly recommended.
