Dragon AU is a MM fanfiction style novel, based on the Canon short story written by AM Rose for the multi author series Because Canon Sucks. In Canon, Milo and Rowan miss out on their happy ever after, so this series strives to give them one in every other universe.

What happens when an innocent short story about two mismatched men accidentally meet at an airport and have a short moment and then go off on there own ways and a group of authors revolt? That’s exactly what happen is this new series. Authors decided to create an alternate universe where these two characters get their HEA that never happened. (A free copy of the short story -24 pages- that stared all this controversy is available on the BookFunnel Download Page and I recommend it to get a lot of the key inside jokes and why something is in the alternate universe story.)
Rowan Rangecroft is not having a good day. The dragon’s hoard new secured viewing building project his company is building has hit yet another snafu! Some translucent blond twink idiot has chained himself to a freaking tree so that his crew can’t demolish the current building. And when he goes to confront said idiot the guy bites him!!! What the ever loving heck! But what amazes him even more is that the guy seems to have absolutely no clue of what he really is! And he is just doing this to protect the elderly people living in the dilapidated building.
I absolutely loved this rewritten version of Rowan and Milo after A. M. wrote the original story. And I really loved the premise of an orphan not knowing that he’s actually a dragon. And that his “hoard” are his geriatric friends that he lives with, takes care of and holds at least 5 jobs to support. They are the most important things in his life. He doesn’t need baubles like many dragons…although he could use the money that they are worth. But Ethyl, Conrad, Glenn, Shelley and Clarence are his found family and worth more to him than all the riches in the world. So him being a dragon makes sense that he protects what is most valuable to him. Because, besides the Geriatric Avengers Squad and his bestie Ray, nothing was more important to him. That is until he meet Rowan and then proceeded to fall in love with him. But that’s what mates are designed to do. Once you find them you can’t exist without them.
I had to laugh that everyone who knew Milo knew he was a dragon. That they were sparing his feelings and didn’t want to pry because they thought it was something traumatic or something. But their lack of surprise when he confronted Ray and then his hoard was priceless. It was like “Duh! Of course you’re a dragon! 🤦♀️ We just didn’t want to stir up bad memories!” They knew that he protected them and they loved him as their own. They fretted over how hard he worked to take care of him. They were the epitome of found family!!!
I also loved that Milo helped Rowan to finally tell the family, especially his father, his true feelings on taking over and running the family business. With Milo beside him, Rowan finally had the strength to express his true feelings and desires. Not the ones that were expected of him. The ones that he felt inside but never vocalized.
Because Canon really did suck with its ending, I was thankful that sparked a lot of emotions with fellow authors and we got this amazing spin-off series. I have been told that this happens in fanfic and is popular but I have not experienced this before. I literally had to look up what fanfic and AU was. And now I’m a fan of these alternate universes that have been written so that these sweet men finally get the HEA that they deserved. Now on to the next universe and what unique spin author puts on these men.
