BLURB:

Devon Tierney has been in Secret Springs for a long time, his duties as a midwife making sure he sees everyone else’s happy ending. But he doesn’t see much opportunity to date, and even with his amazing cats waiting for him at home, he’s lonely. Enter a super grumpy EMT with a sister who goes into labor on Valentine’s Day, and Devon starts to wonder if he should rethink that feeling.

Laird McCallum wants his sister to go to a hospital to give birth. He’s an EMT, and he has no love for any kind of super-crunchy-granola birth center and the midwife who goes with it. But then he gets to know Devon, and he has to admit, he enjoys his company, and he thinks Devon is utterly lovely.

But then they have to come together and get to know one another in the most awkward set of circumstances. Can they find a way to be together, even though they did everything backward?

REVIEW:

I love all of Minerva Howe’s omegas and their strong and devoted alphas…whether they are human and in Secret Springs or dragons in the high mountains. She always makes me fall head-over-heals in love. But this book is extra special because…it’s finally Devon’s turn! After all the babies he’s assisted bringing into Secret Springs, at the birthing center he created and owns, he deserved an extra special story of his very own! And I knew his business partner and bestie Raven would be right there beside him to cheer for his happiness and much deserved HEA!

Laird McCallum is an EMT in Secret Springs and knows what he’s doing along side his work partner and friend Nick. But when Laird’s sister calls and announces that her husband is stuck out of town in a snow storm and she’s in labor he knows just how to jump in. However he’s not thrilled with her choice on where she has chosen to deliver her daughter. The birthing center in Secret Springs may be a hugely popular place that omegas from all the surrounding area choose to give birth at but Laird would be much happier if they were heading straight to the sterile hospital up in Montrose. I mean why the heck is the whirlpool birthing tub pink!!! But the smaller omega midwife let him know just how this was going to go…even if Laird had delivered several surprise babies in their ambulance. What he doesn’t expect was the draw that came a bit later when he discovered an exhausted Devon waiting for the coffee shop to open early in the morning a couple days later. When breakfast becomes movies and dinner on a pretty regular basis things become heated on a pretty regular basis. But what comes next when the two discover that birth control isn’t always foolproof?

These two were so attracted to each other but Devon was definitely gun shy about the gorgeous and hunky Laird. He had been burned in the past by beautiful alphas and wasn’t chancing his heart. Thankfully Laird recognized that but he was all in with Devon. I loved how they each supported each other and their dreams and expectations. They were such a perfect fit!

I knew Raven would be an active part of this story. Devon and Raven were joined at the hip. Besties and very successful business partners in the Birthing Center. And I loved how Laird’s family just accepted Devon into their fold so effortlessly. But Nick is the one that I worry about. He and Laird were super close.  Thankfully Devon, who really is gifted in recognizing people’s needs, saw that Nick needed to be close to Laird. He included him as part of their family. Those bad shifts need companionship and support afterwards. I really hope the next book in this wonderful series is Nick’s story. 🤞

Great story about one of the most important characters in the entire Secret Springs universe!
