REVIEW:
This story picks up from the previous one with Josh and Elijah recovering from the recent events. With more people now knowing about Josh and his background, coupled with Elijah’s precarious status with the pack, Elijah has plans for them to sort of hide away for a while, but Josh has his own plans.
I actually struggled with this one a little bit in the beginning before these plans started in motion. Josh and Elijah were accepting each other as mates and actually being in a relationship, which was great, but I quickly had my fill of all the ooey gooey love talk. I also struggle with the “moonbeam” nickname. That said, once Josh’s plan gets rolling, which sets Elijah on a different path and forming new plans, things pick up and I was sucked back into the story.
As things play out, we learn more about Josh and his background and how he was forced to grow up. Keep in mind that through all of this, he is dealing with the virus his deal old mom recently gifted him with. Controlling that and keeping his bond with Elijah under wraps is no small feat, but he has a little help from a few people.
A lot of this story comes down to trust, as Josh and Elijah must trust one another at various times to get through things now at play. While they are dealing with the Josh issues, Elijah is forced to face the pack issues with the current Alpha, something his bestie, Eric, has been begging him to do for the last decade, at least. There is so much at play here with the added factor of Josh somehow also being an Alpha, which throws things for a loop with various pack members following the respective alphas. I liked this aspect of the story most, but we didn’t really get to focus on it until the end.
All in all, I enjoyed this and especially liked how it picked up and held my interest to the conclusion. Josh had apparently been planning things in a lot more detail once he met Elijah and it ends up being helpful and necessary for their future survival. I can easily see a spinoff that continues this story a bit more now that things are a bit more settled with our mates and their new pack and would definitely be interested in seeing more of the other characters get more page time.
