Their dislike is mutual. Their attraction is undeniable. But a stalker threatens to bring the curtains down before the show even starts.

Shane Castle, lead singer for a world-famous rock band, has a stalker problem. Overzealous fans are par for the course, but this one is going too far. With photographic evidence that his stalker snuck into his hotel room while he was sleeping, his manager decides it’s time to step up Shane’s security. But now Shane has another problem. His new bodyguard is a cowboy—the epitome of a past he never wanted to revisit.

The last thing digital investigation specialist Wes Stonebraker wants is to leave the solitude of his home on Haverstall Mountain Ranch to babysit a diva celebrity. But when an old friend insists Wes is the only one for the job, he trades the peace and quiet of ranch life for the bright lights and mayhem of a touring rock band.

Even as attraction sparks, their dislike is immediate and mutual, but as the threats increase and the two grow closer, Wes realizes there’s more to Shane than the façade the world sees. But Shane’s stalker seems to always be one step ahead, and if Wes doesn’t figure out who it is soon, they both might not make it to the next show alive.

REVIEW:

Note:  This is the second book in this series and contains some spoilers for the first book.  However, it can be read as a standalone.

Shane Castle is a rock star with a problem.  He’s got a stalker who is escalating things.  When a picture is sent to said star that was taken in his hotel room after a concert where he is clearly not conscious, his tour security decides to bring in the big guns – Stonebraker Security.  Wes Stonebraker is a bodyguard and he’s sent out on the job. .  Clearly whoever this is has a lot of access to Shane and his schedule.  To everyone Wes is a suspect.   Shane refuses to accept that and Shane likes to yank Wes’s chain too.  There is a simmering attraction there, but Shane is not a “relationship” guy and besides, he’s Wes’s client.

Things start to escalate though.  Pictures of Wes and Shane together in places they shouldn’t be able to be tracked show up in Shane’s personal email.  This again points to someone who is close to Shane.  Wes trusts no one.  Eventually the stalker escalates to extreme violence and Shane and the rest of the band are potentially in danger.  Wes crosses a line he’s not really comfortable doing with Shane and their relationship get tense.  Wes vows to keep Shane safe.

The only solution that Wes can come up with is to hide out with Shane while he continues to track the stalker – who appears to be quite cyber savvy.  Wes keeps running into dead ends.  Their respite from touring ends up revealing a lot more about Shane’s background and why he was initially bristly with Wes.  Turns out all cowboys are bigots.  And the closer they become, the more determined Wes is to find the stalker and stop them.  He will do whatever it takes to keep Shane safe.

So I don’t want to be spoilery and reveal any details about Wes’s plans to safeguard  Shane from the stalker, but I was happy with his plan 🙂  Shane has his reasons for disliking cowboys and eventually he unburdens himself to Wes who he ultimately trusts.  They cannot ignore what is between them and although Wes is conflicted, he is beginning to suspect that Shane is “the one” and he’s not willing to just let that go.  Shane is worried about how they would make something like this work given that he’s got a touring scheduled to deal with and Wes doesn’t love travel.  I liked seeing the couple from the previous book in this one too.  The local sheriff appears in this book as well 😉  There are some supportive secondary characters and some great causes highlighted in this book too that show how messed up a lot of people and policies can be.  Also, I cannot WAIT for the next book which better be Kieran and Nick!  Oh and a bonus?  There are holidays in this story too for a little added timely enjoyment.  Recommended particularly for fans of rock stars, bodyguards, cowboys and opposites attract.
