Author Monthly Post – Anne Barwell – Enemies to Lovers

This month I’m taking part in a MM Enemies to Lovers Promo.

I love this trope, and my WWI Christmas Truce book, On Wings of Song, is on sale as part of the promo.

Jochen and Aiden begin the story as soldiers fighting on opposites sides during a world war. Meeting during the 1914 Christmas Truce doesn’t only give their enemy a face, but introduces them to someone who has the potential to be friends and more. They bond over their love of literature, and Aiden’s beautiful singing voice touches Jochen.

One of the reasons I like this trope is that often the MCs begin the story thinking they couldn’t possibly be friends, let alone lovers, as everything about them is too different. Not only that but they’re fighting for different causes. How do you trust someone whom you think is focused on winning the one goal you can’t let them achieve?

Setting this story during a war brings with it many more complications. Jochen and Aiden don’t want to fight each other, but it’s not up to them to stop the war. Even afterwards, when Jochen comes to London and tries to find Aiden, he’s met with opposition from those don’t want him there because he’s German. The war has left scars on both men too and, even if they can find solace in each other’s arms, at that time there were harsh consequences for two men caught in a relationship.

Check out the MM Enemies to Lovers promotion which runs from 18-28 March.
