Author Monthly Post – Anne Barwell – Happy New Year!

As it’s my first post of 2022, I’m sharing my writing goals for this year.

My next release will be Prelude to Love, a contemporary New Zealand set romance. I’m still waiting on the proofs, but once it’s ready to go I’ll pop it up on payhip while it’s on preorder so those of you who prefer to buy from somewhere other than Amazon can nab it before it goes into KU.

Meantime I’m working on Double Exposure which is the first book of my NZ series, Pōneke Shadows. Ben and Simon from The Sleepless City investigate a supernatural crime in Wellington. I’m on the 3rd draft of this, so after one more round of beta readers it’s off to my editor by April.

I also have plans for a novella series set within the same world, but more news on that later. At present it’s a lot of notes, a rough outline, and characters who are keen to be written. I’m looking forward to writing new words.

I still have a couple of backlist series to complete, which I haven’t forgotten about and will be working on those inbetween my new releases, then publishing the series a month or two apart. First up is Dragons of Astria. I have the first book, with a new name, to rewrite and 58K of book 2 already written. It will be a three book series.

2022 has already brought a few hitches with it, as I’m currently laid up with cellulitis from an infected cat scratch. Joy!

The other thing I’m trialing for this year is popping a book on sale each month. So far I’m very happy with the response. I’m aiming to give all my books a turn on sale, even the ones that aren’t first in series, so watch this space.

January’s book on sale is Slow Dreaming, my NZ set time travel romance.

Slow Dreaming
A Tempus Institute Story.

Should he change the past for love?

As an agent for the Tempus Institute, Jason Adams’ task is to observe the past, not change it. But when he’s sent to 21st-century Wellington, New Zealand, during the last week of aspiring songwriter Sean Henderson’s life, Jason finds he can’t just watch from a distance. He and Sean quickly become friends and then lovers, and when the song that’s haunted Jason for years connects them in a way he never anticipated, he’ll risk changing history for the chance of sharing a future with Sean.

Author’s note: This story was originally released by another publishing house. This edition has some added content, and uses UK/NZ spelling to reflect its setting.
