At 19, Beck Barretti is living two lives. To his family, he’s a young man trying to find his way after years of battling a mental illness that nearly cost him everything. But to the rest of the world he’s just another privileged kid with problems. The truth doesn’t even lie somewhere in between because Beck’s entire life is actually about keeping secrets.
From the people he loves.
From the ones he doesn’t.
From himself.
Spending a summer in Dare, Montana with family friends isn’t about starting fresh – it’s about escaping the crippling darkness that threatens to consume him.
Until one encounter that was supposed to mean nothing ends up changing everything…
Quinn Donovan had the life he’d always dreamed of until a brutal act of violence ripped it all away. Even though he’s found a new future working at the CB Bar Ranch in Dare, Montana, he’s not interested in trying to get back what he once had. All he wants is a quiet life that includes a job that’s worth getting up for each morning and hanging out with his best friend, a black and white Paint stallion named Koda.
But nothing prepares him for the strange twist of fate that brings not one, but two men into his life…
Brody Wilder is done hiding in the closet. As the son of a political scion, he’s spent his entire life hiding the truth about who he is just so he could inherit a legacy he never wanted. But those days are behind him and he’s starting a new life in rural Montana where he’s saving lives as a paramedic and building a successful construction business that would surely horrify his old-money, society-loving family.
After years of denying himself, he’s taking advantage of his newfound freedom by indulging in random, meaningless sexual encounters that are about pleasure, not emotion.
So no one is more surprised than him when one night in the back room of a sordid gay club leads to something more…
Can three men who came together by chance find the hope they need to build a future with each other, or will they end up letting their fears tear them apart?
REVIEW:
Another story whose level of angst is way up there! The fifth story in the Finding Series from Ms. Sloane Kennedy. These are standalone stories but whose characters have somehow intertwined because for one, they all live in one town, Dare, Montana, and also some of the characters are personally connected to each other. In this particular story, one of the main characters directly is connected with the Barretti’s, particularly, Cade and Rafe Barretti. They are the parents of Beck.
Beck has been given or requested to spend the summer in Dare, Montana and gain the experience of having a summer job in CB Bar Ranch. His parents saw it as something that might help Beck heal from some inner turmoil that has been plaguing him since. Beck, with his younger brother and sister, were adopted by Rafe and Cade Barretti a few years ago, and they have had a life full of love and care and a family big enough that you will never look for anything more. But before they were adopted, he has had to do things in order for his family to survive. Things that he feel dirty and ashamed about.
Quinn lost his husband two years prior and he never thought he will find someone/s who could make him hope for what he had, again. Not until Beck and Brody. The pain that he went through when he lost his husband was so much that he thought he could never get through it but slowly he has. His work with CB Bar Ranch has helped a lot in his healing. And that healing includes being attracted again to not one but two men, Beck and Brody.
Brody left a life of privilege in order to do and follow what he wants and loves. To be free to be his real self. His heart was broken by his own family who he trusts more than himself. Ever since, he took his Paramedic training and started his own small construction business. He has always loved working with his hands and this is exactly how he saw his life would be. He has given up on finding that special someone for him, resorting instead to hook-ups. He never thought that he will get the chance of a love that he only thought as impossible or unattainable. Not until Quinn and Beck.
But with all their individual painful pasts, will they ever get the chance to start something that will ultimately heal what was broken in each of them? Will they be courageous enough to embark on this relationship that is quite unconventional but not uncommon?
A story of pure love, not looking at what other people might expect but what you expect your life to be. A tale of a beautiful love that can withstand the broken pasts of each partner and having the strength to forge on and map out a new future with not one partner, but two lovable human beings who make your world spin with every minute spent with them. A story full of Ms. Sloane Kennedy’s signature level of angst, a whole army of family members who will always be there for you if you just choose them to be there. A story of acceptance and love that will make your heart ache with so much happiness! Ms. Sloane Kennedy, your talent in writing these amazing stories is unquestionable, you are simply AMAZING!
