REVIEW:
There are some short stories that leave you dissatisfied and wanting more and then there are those that just hit all the right buttons and make you want more because it was just that good. This was so totally one of the latter! I loved this; from start to finish it was great and it really felt as though it was a much longer story. The main characters, Danny and Declan, were clearly defined and even without breaking them down into the smallest details, it was easy to see what made them who they are and it was easy to connect with them on an emotional level, as well. Danny especially. Danny went through so much and while his reasons weren’t known at the beginning of the story, when the truth came out I just hurt for him while also admiring the strength it took to survive it. The author managed to convey a lot of what Danny suffered without saying a great deal and that just worked so well with the overall story.
The pacing was great and things really felt complete at the end in a way some longer stories struggle to manage. I’d love to say more but really don’t want to give anything away! The way the book ended was great and sets up beautifully for the next book in the series, which I’m looking forward to immensely. J If you’ve never read B.A. Tortuga before, I recommend starting now; you’ll get a great look at the author’s writing while getting to read a great story at the same time.
