With one tug the thread unravels, and a world built on lies will come tumbling down
Too many bodies. Rivers of blood. Elias Kote sees them all in his sleep. Only the love of his husband and daughter keeps him alive and fighting. This contract killer is exhausted and weighed down with all the lies he tells every day. Who he is. What he does. How he came to have all he has. Elias can attest to nothing remaining hidden forever, but his secrets, when they do drop, shatters everything. Everyone. And leaves him scrambling to make his family whole again.
Ten years together. Three legally wed. One with their daughter. And in one night Lucky Mousasi’s world just…stops. What he thought was a random home invasion turns into way more. Masked men not only brutalize him, but they come armed with knowledge about Lucky, his husband, and the life he thought he knew. It seems nothing is coincidental, certainly not meeting and falling in love with Elias. Bruised, battered, heart ripped open, Lucky walks away.
An intimate rival will stop at nothing to neutralize the threat Elias poses, and the life he built out of guilt and desperation becomes collateral damage. When Lucky takes their daughter and disappears, Elias goes on a rampage. He will get his family back, but first he’s on an elimination mission. One bullet at a time.
REVIEW:
So, let’s just start by saying DAYUM!!!!!
Whew…glad we got that out of the way cuz truly….DAYUM!!! This book had me from the beginning and it truly didn’t let me go until the very last word was read.
Lucky Mousasi’s life was taken from him when his parents were killed and he had to go and live with his aunt and uncle who didn’t particularly want him around. On Lucky’s 16th Birthday he meets the man who he’s going to Love for the rest of his life. He just didn’t know it then. Lucky still has to go through his life, school and working. Establishing himself in his chosen career field…tattoos (which I LOVE)!! Lucky knows as he gets older that the ONE MAN he wants keeps popping in and out of his life like he’s a freaking balloon. Lucky is this young man whose life becomes about his family…his husband, Elias and daughter, Maddie. I liked that as Lucky grew up, he became a force of his own to be reckoned with. He’s a man who owns his own business and stands on his own two feet. I liked Lucky from the beginning. I liked that no matter what happened, he is a survivor. I liked that he was his own man and that even when his life blew up on him…he still was strong. I admire his strength of will as well as his conviction.
Elias Kote…WOW!! Elias was a different breed of character than Lucky. I say that because, where Lucky is innocent and naïve, Elias IS NOT!! He’s not been that way for some time and he hates his life. He hates that sweet Lucky is going through his highs and lows with him. That he knows that he wants Lucky, even when he’s not supposed to. Elias hasn’t had an easy life either. Elias’ life has been filled with murder, lies and plenty of deceit. He’s only made two people in his life that he truly trusts with everything that he has, everything that he is and that’s Israel and Tek. Lucky and Maddie are his life. Lucky and Maddie are His Home and His Sanctuary. He’s getting tired of the lies and the bloodshed. However, there’s not much he can do about it, he’s made his bed and he’s just going to have to lie in it. No matter the toll that it’s taking on him. Until the night that his house of cards come crashing down on him and his family and he’s now got finish what was started and save his family.
These two characters are just…damn, I don’t even know what to say. I waited overnight to start this review because I wanted them to marinate in my head and get my thoughts together. I felt so damn bad for Elias. Getting his background and a better since of who he is and what he’s going through…just about broke my heart. The way that Elias bargained and sacrificed for Lucky and Maddie…just so that he could have some normal in his life and most importantly…to have Lucky in his life. Holy Hannah, Elias made my heart hurt. Lucky…my heart went out to him from the first moment he came on screen.
Now, if you’ve ever read an Avril Ashton book before you know that Av BRINGS some good, hot sexing!! This book was no different. Avril had me wanting to fan myself as well as smoke after those scenes. WHEW…I could barely breath for the way she writes such smoking hot sex scenes.
Now, Is and Reggie had some quality time in this book and I was really glad to see them. I love seeing my boys from prior books make appearances to just show me that they are doing fine. Hell, even My Favorite Book Boyfriend, Dima showed up for a brief and I do mean brief cameo appearance. I HEART DIMA SO MUCH!! Anyway, we got more on Tek. Not much in the story….but I have a feeling he’s about to tear my heart out of my chest and stomp on it for awhile. Sigh. Can you tell that I just can’t wait.
This story went from the past, when Lucky and Elias first meet until they finally decide to be a couple. It spans about 8 years from Lucky’s 16th Birthday until he’s 24 when these two FINALLY get it together enough to finally become a couple. Then the story moves to the present, when they’ve been together for 10 yrs and have a daughter. I like that we got so much of their history and got to see as they fell in love and got together. The present part was watching Elias’ past and present collide and Elias open a HUGE can of I’m Kickin Ass and Don’t Care For Names, EVER!! His family is threatened and that can’t be allowed!! Good Times.
This book was a great read, I enjoyed every breath-stealing moment and You’ll be EXACTLY the same. If you’ve read the prior Run This Town books, this is a wonderful addition to the series and you WON’T be disappointed!!
Freaking S. Avril gives us a sneak peek into Tek and Quinn’s book at the very end…HOLY FUCKING HANNAH!! That Is All!!! CAN’T FUCKING WAIT!!!
