Note: This book picks up after the events of the previous book, The Same Blood and they should be read in order. This is a second series with these characters and it’s recommended to read that The Lion and the Lamb books prior to this series.
Tean and Jem have been helping with Daniel after they managed to survive the last book. The killers have not been found. The cops have arrested some hermit who was on the sex offender list despite the evidence, testimony and witness statements that they provided. Great. Nobody seems to be looking for the wolfmen who killed River. Then her podcast partner shows up with a story that she’s being followed/stalked.
When Tean and Jem check this out, it is definitely legit that somebody has been in her home. They get her stashed at a hotel and keep looking. She provides River’s notes and they go back into detective mode since the police/FBI don’t seem to be doing anything.
This gets a bit derailed when a former foster home placement dude shows up at Rainbow house and Jem shorts out and attacks him. This man is a molester and he knows it and he’s sniffing around Daniel. UGH! This sets Jem off and really short circuits his brain. And as it so happens, Tean’s grandfather dies that same night and so he’s drawn back into his dysfunctional family to deal with the it. Tean’s parents are getting a divorce and he really doesn’t want to have any part in any of it. He’s not sad. He’s not grieving. He just knows he’s can’t completely avoid his father and his brothers.
Meanwhile, the sleuthing does turn up some new avenues. Other deaths seems suspicious. There may be someone from one of the wolf’s past that can shed light on what is driving the killing. But none of that will matter if Tean and Jem do not survive the repeated encounters with this band of psycho killers.
Ok. Well. I have to say, I’m glad that’s over. This was incredibly intense in a dark way! I wanted to shake these guys when they kept going off without any forethought or at least any means of self-defense – well at least Tean. I realize he had issues because of the events of the previous series, but come on. These are serial killers! And man it is really really messed up. I will say that the mystery was very well written and I did NOT know until the very end and the unveiling just exactly what we were dealing with here – which I did really like 😉 Still no resolution with Ammon and hopefully Daniel will be OK and his family will do the right thing. But I really hope that Tean and Jem get some peace now! I hope Mr. Ashe gives us a lovely and unexciting wedding story at some point in the future 😀 Well done!
