Seth and Evan fell in love when Seth rescued Evan from one of the dark witches, and they went on the road together to stop the murders. Their relationship is new and intense, growing deeper with the danger, giving them both a reason to survive and gain vengeance.

Sterling Vernon is a prominent restaurateur with a thriving array of businesses, and he’s also the seventh witch-disciple with a new victim in his sights. His reputation and wealth protect him, and his dark magic enables him to evade consequences. Vernon needs to work his ritual to replenish his power soon, and that requires a new sacrifice.

Paxton Miller is Vernon’s next intended victim. When Vernon puts a killing curse on Evan to force a confrontation with Seth, it’s going to take all of Seth’s courage and cleverness, as well as help from their friends with supernatural abilities, to save Evan and Paxton and stop Vernon once and for all.

REVIEW:

Note:  This is the eighth book in this series and builds on the events of the previous books.  There are major spoilers for all previous books in this installment and as such, it’s recommended to read/listen to these books in order.  That being said, the author does give enough information about how Seth and Evan came to be so their backstory isn’t a complete mystery to new readers.

Seth and Evan are in Savannah this time.  They have met with some local witches and know that the local Witch Disciple is about the make his sacrifice to retain his power.  He’s a restauranteur and his restaurants are this base.  Pax, a guy with a successful food truck seems to be the next target.  The first sons in his family line have died under mysterious circumstances.  Pax’s boyfriend Tony is a musician and they all seem to get along fine.  Until Seth and Evan share the fact that Pax is is danger.  Then Tony tells them to take a hike and that he doesn’t believe a word they are sayikng.

Despite Seth and Evan’s best efforts, Pax gets taking.  Now Tony is asking for help.  It will be up to Seth and Evan and their other hunter friends to save Pax from the sacrifice about to take place.  But Seth has been cursed now too – so how can both of them be saved?

Oooooh!  Plenty of suspense in this one.   The locals really help Seth and Evan as do Tony’s musician friends in a new twist on fighting the Witch Disciple dark magic.  As usual there is a very tense standoff and a lot of danger that it’s not clear how our heroes will survive.  This one also weaves in some really nice romance – both for Tony and Pax and Evan and Seth.  I love seeing Seth and Evan solidify their relationship.

As usual Kale Williams is superb.  He really brings the anxiety and suspense to the fore here.  Our intrepid heroes are under a lot of pressure.  Seth is starting to crack and Evan wants to help him so badly.  They believe in each other and work hard to save their friends.  Consistent performance is crucial and this was perfection.  Recommended.
