REVIEW:

Note:  This is the fourth in a series, and as such, should be read in order.  Major spoilers for the previous books in this installment.

Sebastian and Ves are still trying to find the last Book – the Book of Blood.  This is the last of the four books and while they and their usual cohort of friends and family are helping, some mysterious deaths are happening.  When Ves and Sebastian are approached by a local, Mr. Tubbs who is no fan of the librarians, but he does need help trying to figure out who (or what) is causing the deaths of member of the Widdershins Horticultural Society.  Tubbs feels like the librarians have information that they have always been unwilling to share with those they don’t think deserve to know what is going on.  But this time it’s a family member who has been affected so he approaches the men.

Needless to say, there has been some less than savory dealings within the WHS and Ves and Sebastian have a bad feeling that this is tied to the last Book of the Bound when Sebastian’s scars start reacting as they close in on the killer.  There is dark magic afoot and Ves isn’t exactly thrilled to be in contact with his family again either.  He’s worried about Sebastian and Noct and Irene and Bonnie and well really everyone who is close to him given the apparent strength of this entity.

There is of course a desperate situation that required both Sebastian and Ves to give it their all in order to save each other.  It remains to be seen whether they will have to pay too high a price.  I guess we’ll have to wait for the next book in order to get the final answers 😉

I thoroughly enjoyed this terrific audio version of this story,  The mystery was slightly less mysterious for me and I identified some villains pretty early on, but as usual, Ves and Noct and Irene and Sebastian make for an entertaining group.  The bad behaviour of the “upper class” once again comes home to roost and it’s up to our heroes to save the day. Again.  With the reappearance of trouble-making characters, it remains to be seen what the ultimate outcome will be, but I have a feeling it’ll be an exciting ride!  This series is so much fun – I really adore these Widdershins characters,  Joel Leslie does an outstanding job of performing these stories.  The anticipation and dire situations guarantee that the tension is palpable throughout the story.  These two have already overcome so much, but there apparently is more to come 😉  I don’t think anyone is complaining though and I also cannot wait for the conclusion to this series.  Widdershins does indeed know it’s own 🙂  Recommended.
