The dead will not be silenced.

When Oscar, Nigel, and the rest of the OtP ghost hunters travel to Devil’s Den Island, their job seems simple: lay the ghost of a dead medium to rest at last.

But more than one ghost haunts Devil’s Den, and soon the team realize there’s more to the island’s dark past than they’ve been led to believe. As the fallout from century-old secrets closes in around them, one thing is clear: the dead have a story to tell.

And ignoring it could prove fatal.

REVIEW

I loved this book. It is not the author’s best, or even the best in the series, but it is an entertaining and thought-provoking read.

As usual, the characters, even the ghosts, have well rounded and vivid personalities, and work within a rich and vibrant background world with more than enough detail to paint a comprehensive picture while never stooping to info-dumping. The past and present come together seamlessly to teach us a valuable lesson, that too many people today remain strangely resistant to learning.

I won’t say that the shocking reveals were entirely unexpected, but I happen to like books that give just enough clues to let the reader work things out for themselves as they go along. There were more than enough twists and turns to keep things interesting and all conclusions were logical and satisfying ones. The most shocking revelations came from within the relationships of the characters themselves rather than the story around them, and that was extremely satisfying in itself.

Once again, Nigel, Oscar, their friends and colleagues put their hearts and souls into their investigation and have to reach right to the bottom of the barrel for the strength and fortitude to pull off what was one of their toughest cases, particularly from an emotional perspective, and they did it splendidly.

The bible tells us, “The love of money is the root of all kinds of evil,” and it is half right. The other half being power. In many cases, as in this one, they go hand in hand, with reputation coming a close third. The metaphors are strong, and I’m sure, for some, hard to hear but they make for a solid story with more than enough meat to really get your teeth into.

This is not a story for the faint-hearted. There is some real creeping horror in there and I loved every minute of it.
