They call me Knight because I’m always trying to save someone…
Unfortunately, I can’t even save myself most of the time. I didn’t save myself from getting involved with the wrong people, from taking the fall for a guy I thought I loved, or from being betrayed by him.
Redemption Road gives me a fresh start. a new family of men who know what it’s like to make mistakes, and a chance to meet a guy who actually deserves my heart. Only problem? He’s a doctor going places far from Riverton–and he’s way too smart to fall for a con like me.
Especially when my past shows up and tries to drag me back into the biker gang I thought I’d escaped.
There’s no running from them. I’ll have to fight if I want my freedom. And there’s a good chance I won’t come out of it alive.
This time, I’ll have to save myself. But as the other ex-cons at Redemption Road step up, I realize I’m not alone. I finally have people who care about me.
And my best friend’s brother, Aiden, tops that list. He’s not only my roommate and casual hookup. He’s becoming the center of my world.
But unless I end this, I can’t stay with him. I’d only put him in danger. So there’s really no choice.
I’m going to get my happy ending–or die trying.
REVIEW:
Aiden (the younger brother of Flynn) who we met in the last Foster Bro Code book, has finished medical school. He’s the bright light of the family. The one that Flynn saved from their abusive father and went to prison protecting. Now he’s done and he’s moving to town to do research for a year before being matched for a surgical residency. The end of med school didn’t go great for him – after a bad breakup – and so he’s taking a year to get himself together and gain some valuable experience before trying for a cardiac surgery placement. He’s moved in with his brother and his boyfriend Bailey and well, it’s a lot for Aiden to take. He really needs his own place. But he isn’t getting paid much so he’s got to find someplace cheap.
Knight is an ex-con who is trying to get his life on track. He’s part of the Redemption Road group of ex-cons. It’s kind of a mentoring/support group. The roommate he had lined up to help pay his rent decides to abruptly leave time, leaving Knight in the lurch. Flynn suggests that Aiden move in with him. Um, ok. That might have worked if they hadn’t had a VERY steamy encounter at a bar in Omaha in the past.
When Aiden can’t find anything else, he agrees to move in with Knight. But there will be ground rules. Boundaries. If they can make it work, it’ll take a lot of pressure off both of them. Except that the chemistry and heat is still there 😉
Aiden has felt that he has to be perfect and the best because of the sacrifices of Flynn. This has left him very much without a safety net or support. Knight has made some bad decisions in the past and he’s been burned and it cost him years of his life. He’s just trying to get past those mistakes and make a decent life for himself. He’s not a bad guy. He was just very much mistaken and trusted the wrong people and believed they had his back – which clearly they did not.
Eventually as these two live together, lines get a little bit blurred. They are both learning that the life they thought they wanted and were going to have might look a little different. And it might just include someone they never anticipated getting to know and trust and count on.
Loved these two! Obviously the chemistry is sizzling, but Aiden fights it. Both men have some lessons to learn as the both try to get it together in very different ways. I appreciated seeing the Foster Bros and their partners. They growth of all these guys and now the new group from Redemption Road is so heartwarming. They have all overcome so much and they deserve their happily ever afters. I am exciting to see what’s ahead for this group of guys who maybe didn’t get the best hands dealt to them in life, but they are not going to just accept that. They are gong to fight for themselves and each other. Bravo!
