The last thing cowboy Dawson Kincade needs in his life is a job teaching a bored Hollywood star how to fight bulls. But since he’s off work while recovering from an injury, he’s doing just that at his idol, Coke Pharris’s bull fighting school. He’s grumpy about it, and he expects the actor in question to be spoiled and entitled but, to his surprise, he finds so much more.

Seamus Givens has no idea why Dawson dislikes him so much on sight, but he’s at a bull fighting school in New Mexico to learn something for his job, so he can put up with it. He just has to do what he needs to do, and then he can go home. The thing is, he finds a lot to admire in Dawson, and he has a feeling they could be friends, at the very least.

Once Dawson sees Seamus, his sunny personality and his hardcore work ethic, he knows how wrong he was, and the two of them are willing to admit how attracted they are to each other. But Dawson is a bull fighter, and Seamus is a megastar. Can they find a way to combine their lives, and deal with all of the emergency problems that come their way, or will their trails go in different directions?

Century Trails is the first book in the new Roughstock Season Two, and features a grumpy bull fighter, a sunshine nepo-baby actor, and a lot of learning and loving someone who lives a completely opposites attract life.

REVIEW:

One of the things that I like to look for in a book is how the title blends into the story. Shay sharing the story of the century trails in Alaska keyed in my interest. This was one of the more unique titles that had such a cool background of why it was included.

Dawson “Dawes”Kincade is a bullfighter. He as actually the lead now that his mentor, Sterling, retired. But he’s stuck doing his rehab at Coke and Nate’s Bullfighting School from his injuries resulting from that wreck that saved Maverick. That bull snapped his pelvis and his femur! So when Coke and Nate approach him for doing  private lessons for one of the top movie stars out there that does his own stunts, he couldn’t very well turn them down. Especially with the kind of money the studios were throwing at them! But things start out a little rough for the mega movie star Seamus “Shay” Givens and the bull fighter/teacher. Can they actually learn to get along?

I kinda really loved that Shay and Dawes didn’t hit it off right off the bat. Seamus knew who the men at the school were because of his father’s fascination and love of rodeo. And everybody in the world knew who Seamus was. But the attraction and friendship that developed in these men wasn’t because of what they were, but who they were. Seamus really hadn’t had that in his life. He was a nepo-baby who not only got his parents great genes, good looks and acting ability, but he also realized what he got and was not stuffy about it. But Shay also knew that most men were with him for the fame and what he could get them. Dawson wasn’t that kind of man. And that made their relationship really special and important to hang onto.

I’m really glad that we got to see a lot of favorite characters from the previous Roughstock season that were got caught up on. And I’m looking forward to more great books in this next exciting and action-packed season.
