Drake
When Drake was twelve, he found himself homeless and alone. Helped by a friendly neighbour, he meets Robin, a foster parent, and quickly becomes part of his family. As he grows, his need to protect grows with him, from the army to a more secretive career, and onto body protection. Until his job guarding Rafe, a pop idol and spoiled brat. Falling in love with him was never in his job description. On being found out, his life changed again.
Finn
A call to Memphis has his best friend rushing back to his side, and unknowingly, he puts him in danger. His first meeting with Drake was fraught with pain and anger, but still Finn could see and feel an attraction. His Dom wakes up, but Drake doesn’t seem to show any kind of interest. It isn’t until Finn discovers exactly what happened to Memphis that he shows up to see his best friend to apologise.
It was a trip he never returned from—all because of Drake.
This is the third book in the Foster Bros series; whilst it can be read as a standalone, the previous books enhance the story. Drake is a romance book, but it has dark and violent parts. Of course, romance wins, but please, if concerned, check the TW at the start of the book.
REVIEW:
The composition of this book is slightly different from what I expected.
It starts where Drake is thirteen and alone, his mother and her abusive partner just left him behind at their squat.
With help from social workers, he ends up at Robin and Kip’s foster home. At one point e he got a loving family.
We can follow him through the years, where he becomes a Marine. Where later on got a more secretive job, and later as a bodyguard.
He and his brothers are part of the bdsm community. While his brothers are all a Dom he found himself being a submissive. At his latest job, he found a Dom, who’s also his lover.
This all being widely written. Both from Drake and his Dom’s pov.
Parallel runs the story of Finn, somewhat less widely exposed, but still a story within this story.
It worked a bit confusing for me. Summary: before Drake and Finn finally meet, both have a story of their own. I didn’t expect this, and while reading I constantly wondered when and how they would meet.
Around 45% into this story, when they are in their late twenties, they (finally) meet. Finn is best friends with Memphis, who is the partner of Drake’s brother Royal. The circumstances of this all, you’ll have to read yourself!
Finn and Drake start somewhat hostile. But don’t worry it will all turn out well!
Besides the confusing part, I certainly enjoyed this story. Looking back, I think I understand why the author chose the course of this story.
The plot is quite dark, way darker than I expected! There are some triggering elements!
Overall, it was a story with a complicated, well-thought-out plot. The story has wonderful main characters, and ditto secondary characters. The conclusion of this journey is more than wonderful and satisfying!
Please read the trigger warnings. (See tags below)
