BLURB:

For fifteen years, Llangard has been at peace with both its neighbors and the dragons who live along its borders.

Roland has grown from a boy king into a man who sits comfortably on his throne and cares for little other than his people. Well, his people and one beautiful young dragon. As children, shared trauma brought Roland and Aderyn together. As they grew, that bond has become the most unshakeable thing in the young king’s life. But Roland’s darkest secret threatens to unravel the family he’s meticulously built. The truth promises to take away the one thing he treasures above all else: Aderyn’s love.

Aderyn loves his life, his family, and his Roland. But when Roland needs something he could not possibly give, his instinct is to flee. He’s not strong enough to stand by Roland’s side, but when the young king is kidnapped, Aderyn must find his strength quickly. Letting Roland down is one thing, but letting him disappear is unthinkable.

When Aderyn flies to his love’s rescue, not only do they have to protect Llangard from a new threat, but they must shed light on the sins of their past. Only then can they build a strong foundation for their kingdom and keep all the promises they made to each other as boys.

This story is set in the same universe as the Fire and Valor series, and was first a serial on our Patreon in 2025. It’s the story of Roland and Aderyn, aka Dragon, set fifteen years after the events of the original series

REVIEW:

I always love coming back to an old favorite and seeing how the happily-ever after-is going. This time we got a whole new story out of it. This is not a disappointment.

Seeing Roland and Aderyn’s relationship mature and grow is pretty wonderful. Sam Burns and W.M. Fawkes never let me down when it comes to character development and world creation. Also, I love dragons. And many of us have been waiting for years to read this.

If you are a fan of the original series, you are going to love it. Seeing these two men we knew as boys work towards a brighter future is a blessing. Of course, true love is never easy and there’s always something that gets in the way and needs to be overcome. Roland’s struggle with his past feels so real and it’s heartbreaking to see it threaten everything he’s been trying to build.

Aderyn has his own struggles but his love for Roland is always first and foremost in his mind and heart. It’s hard work for both of them but there was never any real doubt (for me at least) that things would work out.

These two authors always portray relationships wonderfully. The intimacy is always spot on and never overtakes the characters or their stories. I can always count on the story being an amazing journey with an ending that leaves me smiling.

So thank you PA Kim for hounding these beloved authors for this story until they gave in. I think I should go and give the series a re-read.
