I’m the best goalie in the league.
Just ask me.
Yes, I have an ego the size of NYC. Maybe that’s why I’ve crashed and burned all my relationships. Love, like a hockey game, is a competition. And once I win, I’m ready for the next game, the next man.
Until I meet him. Sterling Forest. The arrogant, obnoxious news anchor who calls hockey players thugs on ice. He tempts me…intrigues me. Makes me want to kiss that scowl off his lips. I want him to burn for me.
Instead Sterling is the one to set my heart on fire.
Sterling
I know nothing about hockey, and I’m happy to keep it that way. I’ve apologized for my remarks, but the insufferable Denis Bouvier isn’t satisfied. I even do the unthinkable and attend a hockey game. Okay, maybe it is more than brute force. But I can’t tell him he’s right.
Now he’s everywhere I go, and I hate that he fascinates me.
I can’t escape his larger-than-life presence, and that sexy French accent. The more I push him away, the closer he pulls me in.
And I’m afraid to admit I don’t want to let him go.
We’ve spent years running away from broken families and broken promises. But when life explodes around us, we’re running toward each other. And now that the unthinkable has happened, we need to find trust in each other and what our hearts are saying: love is the one thing that ultimately can save us.
REVIEW:
I said right up front, when Author Felice Stevens said that the next book in this series was about the irritating and arrogant egomaniac Denis, that we would learn to love him, I remarked that she truly had her work cut out for her. I loved Rip and Adrian and Denis was absolutely horrible to his former lover and his fiancé. I literally hated him and wasn’t sure I ever even wanted to be tempted to forgive him. But Felice Stevens accomplished the impossible. She not only redeemed him. She made him so you couldn’t help but love him and want him to get his much needed HEA. She made him vulnerable and lovable. Not words I would have ever thought possible. She made me a believer!
I think the thing that resonated with me the most was that both of these beautiful, powerful and successful men had such crushing backstories of their youth. The damage that was done to them by their parents is unforgivable. They were both abandoned by people who gave birth to them but cast them aside. The hurt and betrayal of those that are suppose to love us, but throw you away like a piece of garbage, shaped how both men’s lives and ability to love formed. It is no wonder that they became like they were. But who better than Denis and Sterling, for each other, to understand that level of hurt and help to learn what true love really is? How to learn to lean on and trust another human being after the hurt they have lived with from being throwaways. And, although there was some closure, I feel that this just strengthened their relationship even more. That they knew that no matter what was thrown at them they now had the loyal and complete love of their partner forever.
Will say that Rip’s support of his former lover was a great surprise. It was Adrian, that I had loved, that surprised me the most. I know that the cheerful and loving man l wants everyone to be as happy as Rip and he are. But his meddling and matchmaking put me on edge and I wasn’t as easy to forgive. I know he meant well but it was a bit too much and almost could have cost Denis and Sterling everything. I really hope he learned his lesson. But the side character I loved most was Gil. Not only for what he did for young Denis, but for how easily he recognized that Sterling was who Denis needed inhis life and he accepted him completely. Even giving fatherly advice when it was so needed.
This was such a touching and completely surprising story of resilience.Of finding that one special person out there that not only gets you but sees through your faults and insecurities and still loves you totally and unconditionally. As I stated before, I had huge doubts about Denis being redeemed in any way. But I not only get him now but love him so completely. This was such a surprising and heart-felt story that warmed my heart and made me remember to never judge a book (or bad boy) by its cover! Because you never know what you are going to experience when you open them up! This book, and series, are a HUGE Thumbs up for me 👍. And hopefully for you too 💝
