The day Captain Sorensen pulled him out of an Afghan barn should have been the start of Patsy Good’s new life. Little did he know there might be things far worse than physical torture. In his case, coping with the aftermath of war meant finding the bottom of a whiskey bottle every night. Thank God the captain stepped in when he saw him struggling. Candy took charge, cleaned him up, dusted him off, and saw to it that Patsy got counseling. When he was ready, the captain offered him a job with the FBI and surrounded him with men he already trusted. He gave the Irishman a family, but more importantly, a life worth living again.
Before his mom got sick, Weston Chaudry lived a charmed life. He had a great job, an even better apartment, and he dated smart men. When she became too ill to live alone, he gave up the men, the apartment, and finally quit the job he loved to take care of her. The money ran out right around the time she breathed her last. The house went into foreclosure, and he moved into his car. Living on the street wasn’t something he’d aspired to, but looking back at the comfort he’d been able to give his mom in her last days, made everything tolerable.
When Wes was shot during a convenience store robbery, some people might say his meeting with Patsy was fate, others would say they were star-crossed. Wes couldn’t deny a certain fascination with his rescuer, and Patsy found himself daydreaming about the big bear of a man. When they witnessed a horrific assault, they weren’t prepared to become the target of mob hitmen. Patsy had been in danger many times, but he’d never imagined himself in the role of protector. And Wes? He was beginning to believe his luck was about to change.Nothing could have prepared them for finding love in the most astonishing way.
REVIEW:
Now we get the Irishman’s story on Candy’s team! And what a story it is.
Patsy Good may have been saved from near death when Candy and his team pulled him from that barn in Afghanistan. But they didn’t save him from the horrors that he experienced and the night terrors left in place. Horrors that his best mate didn’t survive. But that’s not the only time that Captain “Candy” Sorensen has saved him. He also pulled him out of the bottom of those whiskey bottles and took charge. Now Patsy is an intricate and valuable member of Candy’s elite FBI Spec Ops Tac Team. A team called in, during special circumstances, when a specially trained unit is needed to take care of a dangerous situation. So when he encounters a burglary gone very wrong, Patsy goes looking for the giant bear of a man, who is obviously homeless, that took a bullet in the process and then fled. But that is definitely the best decision he has made in a long time.
Now we discover that our Patty not only hurts her heroes, that are paid government employees, but the men they love too?!?!? I swear she does it to torture and torment me. She knows that I fall so hard for her men that are literally heroes in my eyes. That they put there lives on the line daily doing what they do to keep us average citizens safe. But now she is taking on poor, sweet, caring, innocent men like Wes???
Wes is literally the sweetest bear of a man. You can’t help but fall head over heels for him. He gave up everything in his life so his mother could live out her final days in her own home looking at her garden. And then he winds up homeless and jobless on the streets of Hollywood. He knows how people see him. That personal hygiene and clean clothes aren’t always even an option. But he is a brilliant mathematician and is so close to getting his life back. That is until that fateful night when he went to the local store his friends owned and have hired him to help from time to time. Taking a bullet, and yes – ouch that hurts a lot!, was not on his agenda. He finally was going to get his life back on track. But meeting and getting to know Patsy…his life is finally on a great track. That is if he can manage to stay alive!
I will say that going undercover at the homeless camp was a ballsy move. Taking an untrained civilian into a life-and-death situation, no matter how many eyes they had on them, was gutsy. Yes, Wes had lived on the street and, for a short time, in an encampment. But, if they are anything like the ones out in my area in Hawaii, they are extremely dangerous and don’t cotton to strangers. So just showing up there raises alerts throughout the encampment. Then add in that one of the “residents” is a homicidal serial killer that is escalating and all bets are off. This had me on the edge of my seat!
What a fascinating and fast paced book. You will definitely be on a wild ride with this one. From doppelgängers to the Italian mob, from recovering from a gun shot to finding your “one”! This engaging novel has it all. I absolutely love this book and series and can’t wait for more! A must-read!!!
