Is it a haunting, a hallucination—or just a really drafty closet?
Victor Bayne is no stranger to ghosts, but the “dead lady in the bedroom” is really testing his limits. He’s stuck investigating a claim from an ex-tenant who’s a few sandwiches short of a picnic, but the building’s history is squeaky clean. Even Vic’s sixth sense is drawing a blank…mostly. Of course, it’s the “mostly” that keeps him from walking away.
Good thing Vic has backup. His husband Jacob is riding shotgun on the investigation, all cool competence. And visiting researcher Dr. Evelyn Hall joins in with her SPECs—cutting-edge gear that can crank Vic’s mediumship up to 11.
It should be the perfect team—a rock‑solid Stiff, a brilliant empath, and a medium who’s seen it all. Except Jacob keeps skipping out on all the grunt work, Evelyn’s motives are as blurry as the ghost, and Vic can no longer tell what he’s even looking at.
If there really is a repeater on site, Vic will have to decide what he trusts the official record, the fancy new tech, or the sick feeling in his gut that says this ghost is the only proof a victim ever existed.
PsyCop is an ongoing series filled with supernatural action and delightfully awkward humor–with a steady undercurrent of gay romance. It’s best read in order, so if you’re new to the series, start with PsyCop #1, Among the Living…and prepare for a hauntingly good read.

REVIEW:
Note: This is the 15th book in this series. It’s much better enjoyed in order as this story builds from book 1 and you’ll probably be super lost if you try to dive in here.
Oh how I love this series! I hope I get to read about Vic and Jacob forever ;))
Vic is pulled into a potential psychic situation when he’s asked to follow up on an apartment rating that mentioned a haunted bedroom. He could be a kook. Or there could be something there. Boswell, the guy keeps dodging Vic’s calls though. His regular partner is on leave and so Jacob steps in. Jacob is unhappy with his performance review, which is throwing him off. When they go to check out the apartment, Vic thinks there may be something there – but it’s too fast for him to really determine if that’s the case.
Meanwhile, a new arrival, Dr. Evelyn Hall, and empath, is visiting the FPMP in Chicago from HQ. She’s got a prototype of a new tech gadget that might help Vic be able to hone in on his skillset. Turns out she was the person who came up with the game that has become his phone addiction that helps him regulate himself. He’s most unhappy with the new release however. He’s not opposed to testing the new tech though. At first it doesn’t seem like it helps much. However, it does seem to have Jacob acting some kinda way.
While investigating the apartment situation, they interview current and previous tenants. Nobody seems to be able to shed any light on who the woman in the bedroom might be. But the lead then comes from the unlikeliest of sources. Chasing down this lead however, makes things more murky. Who is the dead woman/ghost? Who killed her? Why is she still tied to the apartment? Is the potential psychic a crackpot or should Vic try to get him help to work with his abilities>? And why is Jacob acting weird? How can Evelyn’s new tech help? Or is it going to actually cause more damage??
OMG! First, I’m so happy Vic and Jacob are back. Second I was happy to see Crash. Third, Jacob and Vic are such a great couple who truly love and support each other in the face of various trials and tribulations. Once again, the mystery is bizarre and kept me trying to put the pieces of this puzzle together the whole book. There are the usual quirky and VERY eccentric characters here. Take my word for it and never accept a ride in Boswell’s van. Vic has his hands full banishing ghosts and trying to keep everyone safe. Oh and the bad guys pay in this series for the most part, so that left me satisfied. I truly love this series and these characters and shoutout to our beloved Chicago as the setting for this series too 😉 Highly recommended. JCP is a beloved author and this is a beloved series for a reason. Highly recommended.
