Nathaniel picked his pocket, stole his watch, put him in his own handcuffs… and that was just the foreplay.
Nathaniel Weatherby works as a cruise ship magician and comedian. He’s also a thief, or at least he was. He left his family and their family business behind some years ago and uses his skills to entertain rather than cheat and steal. But when jewelry goes missing on board, his past comes back to haunt him.
Maryland police officer Randy Messier is on the cruise ship hoping for a little vacation, but also to keep his eyes open. There have been rumors, and the cruise line is determined to keep its passengers safe. Randy isn’t sure what to do when he gets pulled on stage, but he doesn’t expect Nathaniel to comically rob him blind and leave him in his own handcuffs.
After getting Randy’s attention on stage, the two men circle each like moths to each other’s flame, drawing them ever closer. But when jewelry is stolen, Randy’s first suspicion falls on Nathaniel. Even when Nathaniel has an alibi, Randy still isn’t convinced. It becomes clear that the only way for them to possibly move forward is to catch the real thief. Even then, their growing attraction might not be enough.
REVIEW:
Cute, fast read for a warm summer day.
Nathaniel has wanted nothing to do with his family’s criminal activities since he was seventeen. He took what he learned in his youth and has built a career of illusion and magic with a good dose of humor to keep his audiences laughing and entertained. Now he sails the seas on a luxury cruise ship, his days filled with salt air and sun and his nights spent entertaining the rich. When he chooses his handsome “victim” for the night’s show he has no idea that Randy is a police officer and the crowds love their interaction. Putting the officer in hand cuffs and picking his pockets is a crowd pleaser and they want more of the chemistry that shines the next night. But, when jewelry starts disappearing, all fun and games cease and the two work together to make sure that the passengers are well protected from a thief on board.
I enjoyed this fun cruising book. Having a magician and a police officer that are attracted to each other and thefts happening right under their noses was a nice twist. I was glad that Randy was cautious but kept his eyes open when he suspected Nathaniel, who was the obvious suspect, with his particular set of skills demonstrated so effortlessly during his act. And Nathaniel’s sense of humor kept me amused.
I enjoy Andrew Grey’s books and this was a fun one. A bit of intrigue laced with some humor and sexy men is a great combo.
