Blurb

When a plague ravages his village, the shaman Cian sails to the land of the dwarves for a cure. During the voyage, he meets and allies with Thanyan, a beautiful male elf who is a bard. Upon reaching the dwarven cleric whom Cian has been tasked with consulting, they uncover a dangerous secret: the plague resulted from blood magic. To undo this forbidden magic, they must travel to the island nation of the centaurs and visit The Amphitheater of Souls, the ancient temple where the blood magic was cast.

Cian and Thanyan hire a female dwarven warrior, Loquin, as a bodyguard for protection against the instigator of the plague. However, they still find themselves stalked, assaulted with magic, and tangled in secrets. On the voyage to the island, a sea serpent attacks, nearly destroying their ship, and when they arrive at the island, the spellcaster launches further attempts to kill them so they can’t lift the blood curse causing the plague. With the help of centaur priestesses, the group fights to untangle a dark affair that is revealed to span decades.

As Cian and Thanyan become embroiled in this dangerous mission to capture the rogue spellcaster, they grow to love each other. But with their lives at risk, can they save the village and live out their lives together in love?

Cian held Thanyan’s face steady, hoping they wouldn’t bump noses, and leaned in, closing his eyes. Please don’t be clumsy! He pressed his lips against Thanyan’s. He felt his passion clawing inside of him, begging to be released, and his heart pounded. Thanyan nudged his lips against Cian’s and grasped his hand.

Cian could barely breathe, arousal crashing through him, but he refused to give up this experience. Cian pressed his lips to Thanyan’s again, and understanding that kisses could last longer, figured out how to mouth his lips. After a moment’s awkwardness, he found himself sucking on Thanyan’s lower lip.

Thanyan shivered, moaning, a low, husky sound. He mouthed Cian’s lips in return and slipped his tongue into Cian’s mouth.

With a gasp, Cian fought to adjust, and then Thanyan’s tongue caressed his. He could tell Thanyan wasn’t highly experienced, either, and it relieved him. Thanyan wouldn’t find him to be too unschooled. Despite his concerns, years of pent-up desire thrummed through Cian’s body, and with shock, the truth shot through him: I froze my true self into an ice crystal so that I would not draw even more disapproval and violence from my family. With a surge of desperation, Cian ran one arm around Thanyan’s warm body. He figured out how to slip his tongue into Thanyan’s mouth, caressing and exploring.

Thanyan slid both arms around Cian, pressing into their embrace. One of Thanyan’s hands kneaded Cian’s back.

Cian moaned sharply and flashed hard. Great Goddess, there must be a way to free myself. Cian massaged Thanyan’s back with both hands, trading kisses until he was too breathless to continue.

When Cian pulled back, he met Thanyan’s gaze, lost for a moment as he appreciated how beautiful Thanyan’s eyes were. They were golden like clover honey. “I think I am ill-suited to court humans. The people of Ayrleas are too reserved.” He traced Thanyan’s lips with his fingertips. “Would a deep well of passion bother you?”
