Monthly Author Post – Small Town Romance

I love reading and writing stories set in small towns. Even if everyone doesn’t know each other’s business – and they often do – these communities come with a lovely found family and people who will go out of their way to help anyone who needs it.

A small town setting also lends itself to a variety of genres. My new release, Postscript, is set in Kedgetown, a fictional small town in the Wairarapa area of Wellington. Kedgetown is home, and a safe haven, for supernaturals and psychics. It’s a place where they can be free to be themselves without fear of consequences.

Being a dual timeline, part of that story is set around WWII, and same sex relationships are not frowned upon as in other parts of the world. Being able to openly be with the person they love is one reason why some humans settle there too.

Postscript, the town’s magical bookshop, is a place where people can chat, find new friends as well as new reads, and its caretakers have a few extra abilities which they use to help those who come through her doors.

My sale book this month – Prelude to Love – is also set in a small town, although Lower Hutt is a little bigger than Kedgetown.

I enjoyed being able to set this story in my hometown, and share some of my favourite locations with readers. This story is a contemporary romance, but still has themes of found family and community, which all rally around to make Joel and Marcus’s romance a reality.
