Who is the antsy, beautiful guy in my passenger seat? Or rather, what is he?
Wrongly accused of murder and running for his life, Charley took a chance on the hot stranger with a fast car. He didn’t expect the gorgeous Luc to have any insights into Charley’s increasingly strange symptoms. He certainly didn’t expect to learn the fantastical stories he’d heard as a child were true. And he definitely didn’t expect to feel so strongly for someone he only just met.
Luc’s impulsive offer has landed him in charge of a sexy, enticing, not entirely human someone. Charley might have vampire blood. Surely that should make him less attractive and not more? But the mysterious Charley is irresistible, addictive even. Luc is determined to protect him from anyone and anything…mortal or otherwise.
Fang’d is the sexy first book in the Evergreen Council series, featuring a bratty half-vampire on the run, his stubborn wolf-shifter protector, and a fascinating world of supernatural beings hiding in the shadows. HEA. Standalone.
REVIEW:
It was a dark and stormy night. Well Ok, not stormy. But Luc is driving along and nearly hits a young man on the road. He gets out to make sure the guy is Ok and he realizes something unusual is afoot. Charley is clearly running from something that normal humans shouldn’t be able to detect. Luc is a bit bored with his life and intrigued by the gorgeous guy, so he offers to help him get away from whatever is chasing him. And the little matter of Charley being accused of murder, despite having an alibi.
As they make their escape and try to throw the would-be chasers off the trail, Luc and Charley grow closer. It’s pretty obvious that Charley is unwell and after he fails to wake up, Luc thinks he knows what the issue is. After a trip to a safe house and confirmation, Charley is a bit stunned and he does not like the implications – even though it’s pretty clear that he is not fully human.
Luc decides to take them for help in the form of a powerful vampire. But the news they get is a LOT more than either of them bargain for. And it’s clear that Charley is going to have to do something to clear his name if he has any hope of having anything resembling a normal life. There is more than meets they eye with both Charley and his parentage. And he still isn’t sure why he’s being framed for a murder he didn’t commit.
When Luc and Charley return home in order for Charley to clear his name, things do not go to plan. When Charley is in danger, Luc is beside himself. He can barely restrain his natural instincts to tear everything apart until he finds Charley. Thankfully Charley and Luc have powerful allies and cooler heads prevail with a plan that will solve more than the immediate problem 😀
So first, I have to confess that I am super picky about paranormal books. I don’t like lot of them. I had the pleasure of meeting Vin George this year at RARE in Edinburgh and I thought I would take a crack at this book. I’m really glad I did. There is a lot going on in this book, but the world building was solid and not in an infodump kind of way. In fact our two MCs are learning right along with the reader as there is a lot more going on under the surface than we are initially aware of. Charley and Luc are drawn together and neither one really understands the pull. It’s particularly unusual given that they are different kinds of non-humans that normally don’t get along. Luc’s suspicions about Charley are spot on – but not quite everything 😉 Charley has had difficulty his whole life – having been adopted and definitely not fitting in with his parents who of course don’t know what Charley is so have no idea what to do for him. Luc’s been rejected by his family for being pan so he’s coming at this from a whole different angle. When Charley’s parentage is revealed, Luc struggles a bit as his past and upbringing raise strong feelings. But he’s definitely tied to Charley and he’ll do anything to make sure he’s safe. They are young and Charley is conflicted about being 19 and finding “the one” – so much so that he has to spend some time alone working it out. Luc owns up to his part in their struggle and he also realizes that this is a lot for both of them developing such strong feelings so quickly. Given the paranormal aspect of the story, I thought this was a normal and very “human” reaction that was really well written and authentic.
I really enjoyed meeting all of these characters! I had no idea what I was in for, but this book was a lot of fun from the very first page. I was fully invested in Luc and Charley’s adventure and relationship from the start. Being framed for murder, Luc immediately took on the protector role for the very young-looking Charley and it was clear something unusual was afoot. The fact that their chemistry was off the charts was also a clue that something out of the ordinary was happening here. Yes, there is a lot of sex in this story, but it didn’t detract from the plot and serves to further illustrate the complete attachment that is happening between these two characters – for lots of different reasons 😉 The supporting characters were well-written and really interesting in their own right, so I hope that we will learn even more about them in future installments because I thought this world was full of possibilities as more help arrived throughout the story. If you’re a fan of paranormal romances with strong characters and world-building, I would encourage you to try this one. Definitely recommended.
