Morgan’s life changed the day he was kidnapped and held captive. Even weeks after the rescue, he’s still mentally processing all that has happened. Wingspan might seem like a safe place, but he’s nursed a few of the local bigots, so he knows looks can be deceiving. And then he
meets his Fated mate. Seamus seems too good to be true. A sexy, protective dragon shifter who can bake and smiles all the time. What’s not to love. Despite the chemistry between them, Morgan finds it difficult to let others in, even his mate. Can he let Seamus be his safe haven?
REVIEW:
This story is set amongst the rising tension within the Wingspan Clan, as some of the clan, do not want the vampires to be given a safe haven within the Clan.
We first met Morgan in On Solid Ground Wingspan Book 3 when he was held captive in the panel room with Leaf and Asher. Both Leaf and Asher’s stories were told in books three and four, so it was nice to find out more about Morgan.
The hints we got in the previous books, Morgan came across as well adjusted and over his kidnapping, he was always willing and able to help other people. However, it’s apparent that this was just a front, and he has been just as badly affected as the others. He has thrown himself into his work, as a nurse, giving back to the Clan which rescued him and the others but is coming up against the bigotry of a small minority, so he feels unsafe and is desperate to earn enough money so he can move on. You can feel that he is teetering on the edge of a full breakdown, his whole life has been ripped away from him and he is working insane hours.
It was interesting to see the reunited scene with Asher from Morgans point of view, his emotions were very different to how it seemed in Asher’s book.
Seamus who is the lovable hippy baker with a backstory of investigating for the shifter council, he gave it all up to bake delicious goodies and always has a smile on his face, he is truly happy baking. Its insta-mate love, both happy with each other and willing to make a go of things. Then the bigotry within Seamus’s family rears its ugly head and causes problems for the happy couple. I loved the way Seamus stood up for Morgan with his family and then the romantic gesture to show how committed he was to Morgan whilst still giving Morgan options melted my heart.
I enjoyed returning to the Wingspan Clan with this fun short read, it gave a nice break from the more serious overarching storylines whilst being aware of the rumbling of discontent in the background.
