Author Monthly Post – Anne Barwell – Vampires in Wellington

Happy Pride Month!

This month is a busy one, so of course real life ™ has reared its head with emergency visits to the vet with my cat, Kaylee, and I’ve spent the last few days sitting with a hot water bottle as my back is spasming when I move.

It’s confirmed that getting my pre-order up a month before release date was a wise choice! I’m excited to finally be able to share Double Exposure with you. This story, which continues Ben and Simon’s story from The Sleepless City, is the book I wrote during lockdown in 2020. With the first draft done, I put it on the backburner temporarily while I focused on getting my next backlist series out.

When I first started the publishing gig a friend told me that once the book is written, the work really begins. She wasn’t wrong, which is another reason why having a decent pre-order lead in can be helpful for getting all my release ducks in a row.

I have a checklist I’m slowly working through, most of which I couldn’t do without a buy link. The other good thing with having a pre-order set up is that I have a definite release date to aim for.

Case in point: I thought I’d be clever and upload Double Exposure to Amazon on a Tuesday, which is the last day of my weekend, so I’d be able to start work on it the following weekend. After all, my last release took the full 72 hours to load.

I got up the next morning to find Double Exposure was ready to go in under 12 hours!

I also signed up for a couple of Bookfunnel promos this month with Prelude to Love, so I’ve been doing a lot of promo for that as well as working through my prep list for Double Exposure.

Sadly Postscript has been put to one side, although I did find a very cool house for my template for the magical bookshop, and I’ve been reading Polidori’s The Vampyre in preparation for the next scene I need to write…

It’s all go.

Double Exposure is now available for preorder on Amazon. On its release date of 11 July, it will also go into KU.

It’s also available on Payhip until the 9th July for those of you who prefer epub/not Amazon.

Pōneke Shadows Book 1

Vampires and werewolves live long lives. The Sleepless City saga might have ended but the story continues…

Someone is hunting supernaturals.

Vampire Simon Hawthorne and his human partner Ben Leyton’s plans for a peaceful holiday with family are hijacked by the New Zealand Supernatural Council.

Tensions are on the rise in Wellington. Supernatural councillors are disappearing. Werewolves are suspicious of anyone human or vampire. If they don’t work together, their enemy has already won.

And no one with a connection to the supernatural world is safe.
