Nick: Team Maelstrom is my family as much as the family who raised me. That includes Matt, my partner in crime, and the closest I have to a soulmate. We get each other, and that’s all we’ve ever needed. But there’s a part of me that won’t be silent, the part that wants so much more with Matt. Yeah, I’m in love with my best friend, and I had no idea a fun family Christmas would change everything.
Matt: Nick is my best friend, brother in arms, and so much more. We’ve been through a lot together, in and out of the army. I didn’t have a family growing up, so Team Maelstrom and Nick’s family have become mine. I love everything about Christmas and I wasn’t going to pass up the chance of spending a snow-covered Christmas holiday with them. I certainly wasn’t expecting to find out Nick had been in love with me for years, but it was a bigger surprise for him to find out that maybe, it wasn’t all in vain.
Come and celebrate a romantic fun Christmas with decorations galore, snow-covered scenery, meddling sisters, and a slightly drunk father…who really should learn to keep his mouth shut!
REVIEW:
Nick and Matt are best friends. They’ve been best friends for a long time now. Their team – Team Maelstrom – has been in some tight spots. They lost a team member while overseas and they near lost their leader and each other. But they pulled through. Now they’ve been disbanded, but Matt and Nick are still together, albeit in different jobs, still at Fort Dale together. But Nick has a secret. He’s been in love with Matt for some time, but he’ll settle for his best friend rather than lost him.
As Christmas approaches, Nick’s mother insists that he join the family. And of course that means Matt too, because as soon as Nick’s family met Matt, he was adopted into the family as well. So what that people have sometimes thought that there was more than friendship between Matt and Nick. They know the score. They are best friends – though thick and thin -and nothing will change that. Nothing will come between them.
It seems that Nick’s family is aware of his feelings, however, and so Nick is on pins and needles a bit since his mother and sisters seem to be taking particular pleasure in trying to get him to confess his feelings to Matt. But Nick is an overthinker and he’s well aware that he would risk everything if Matt couldn’t handle it. So of course Nick’s family takes that decision out of his hands 🙂 And boy is Nick unhappy about that. Thankfully it seem that maybe Matt is not so unhappy about it. Stunned maybe. But the more he thinks about it, the more sense it actually makes. Merry Christmas and more to everybody 😀
What a nice holiday story to listen to! I was so busy in December that I didn’t get a chance to even check that this was out and so it was nice to catch up with this audiobook. I’ve like this series and the previous story about Team Maelstrom (Trust Me, I Hate You) was particularly compelling watching the team try to recover from the loss of their team member. Nick and Matt and the rest of the guys had to dig deep and then come together to support each other in their new configuration and while it wasn’t easy, they did it. IDespite how different Nick and Matt seemed from the outside, they were so supportive and strong and caring with each other. Nick never wanted Matt to be uncomfortable and Matt never wanted to push Nick when he wasn’t ready to talk – he let him marinate this thoughts. I loved Nick’s family whole family – especially his bossy mother and meddling sisters and his cleverly sly father 😉 Luckily it all worked out for the best. As usual Michael Ferraiuolo did a great job bringing Nick and Matt to life. The many voices of Nick’s family provided a lot of counterpoints to the story. The humor and teasing and cajoling added a lot of life to punch to this slightly fraught tale of an unrequested life and maybe wasn’t that unrequited after all 😉 Well done! And if you’re looking for a little Christmas spirit here in May, I definitely recommend this little gem.
