Let’s celebrate PRIDE with some of my favorites!

Happy Pride Month Love Bytes fam! I thought I’d help celebrate by sharing some of my favorite things that are LGBTQ inclusive or themed. A book, a movie and a song, as well as a fun giveaway exclusively for Love Bytes followers.

A favorite read…Aristotle and Dante discover the Secrets of the Universe written by Benjamin Alire Sáenz, narrated by Lin-Manuel Miranda.

This audiobook was top five best Audios I’ve ever listened to which was a unique and perfect combination of writing and narration. This was such a wonderfully written story about two young men that are looking for something, anything, discovering secrets about their lives, their futures and their pasts while forging an unbreakable bond of love and friendship. And the narrator, Lin-Manuel Miranda, has a voice that matches the story perfectly. Fresh, new and youthful. I listened to this book several years ago but it’s truly stuck with me, and at the time, Lin hadn’t yet done Hamilton, but his star power was already shining in his brilliant narration of this book

A lyrical novel about family and friendship from critically acclaimed author Benjamin Alire Sáenz.

Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship – the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.

A favorite movie… Love Simon based off the book, Simon versus the Homo Sapiens Agenda by Becky Albertalli.

Such a fun and endearing story that will catch you in the feels that really connects with viewers of any age. Coming out in highschool can’t be easy between hormones, peers and that fear disappointing parents and this movie portrays all of that quite well including the tougher aspects of the story.

A heartfelt coming-of-age story about the adventure of finding yourself and falling in love.

Everyone deserves a great love story. But for seventeen-year-old Simon Spier (Nick Robinson) it’s a bit complicated: he’s yet to tell his family or friends he’s gay and he doesn’t actually know the identity of the anonymous classmate he’s fallen for online.

A favorite song… Superpower by Adam Lambert.

I absolutely adore this man, everything about him and everything he’s accomplished in his career. He’s on nearly every book playlist I create, sometimes more than once. Superpower is one of his newer songs and I’ve probably contributed to a hundred or more of the views on youtube! Give it a listen, I think you’ll like it.

For a chance to win an eBook copy of Aristotle and Dante or a rental of Love Simon, leave a comment and tell me what is one of your favorite LGBTQ inclusive or themed books, movies or songs. I’ll choose a winner at the end of the June. See you guys next month!

This is so difficult. I really liked ‘Love Simon’ as well as ‘The Birdcage, Philadelphia, The Kids are All Right, The Imitation Game, Rocketman, The Normal Heart and Philadelphia.
I especially enjoyed seeing ‘Rent’ and ‘The Prom’ on Broadway.

As far as books; The Absence of Light by Adrienne Wilder, NR Walker’s Switched, Spencer Cohen Series, On Davis Row and Galaxies and Oceans, Melanie Hansen’s Everything Changes, Ella Frank’s Confession series, RJ Scott’s Lancaster Falls series, Mia Kerick’s Red Sheet and One Voice series, Lynn Kelling’s Twin Ties series, James Halat’s Story of Teddy and Eddie, Nicole Colville’s Manchester Menage Collection and Robert Winter’s September.

Songs; Adam Lambert’s What Do You Want From Me, Sam Smith’s Writing on the Wall I’m Too Good at Goodbye, and Queen…all of them, but especially Bohemian Rhapsody!
