Why Readers Love Daddy Kink

It’s been popular for a while now, and it doesn’t show any signs of stopping just yet: daddy kink. The biggest wave in MF romance with daddy kink is behind us, but in MM, readers are still hungry for more. What’s so captivating about daddy kink?

I don’t remember what the first MM book with daddy kink was that I read but it may have been Power Play by Cara Dee. I loved it, went looking for more, and the rabbit hole was deep and wide, haha. What appeals to me is the dynamic where the Daddy is caring and takes care of his boy’s needs. It speaks to me on a deep level of love and care and devotion to a partner. Or in other words: it makes me feel good and happy to read about it. Comforting. Because let’s face it: the idea of someone else taking care of us, of being able to surrender and let go, that does sound good every now and then…

As one reader explained it: “Guess we all carry a deeply buried yearning for being taken care of, helped, supported and protected as we are often as grown ups on our own in that regard and/or we always have to be the caregiver to our kids, partners, elderly parents, etc. ”

Also, a lot of daddy kink books are on the sweeter and fluffier side, and they provide a wonderful escape from reality (though I do appreciate a more angsty one at times…) Aside from that, there are often also sexy elements that I love reading about, like discipline, rewards, and spanking. All the spanking, haha.

Daddy Dynamic

Most daddy kink books have an age gap where the Daddy is older than the boy, but this doesn’t have to be the case. That dynamic of a caring and nurturing daddy and a needy boy is not connected to age or an age difference. My book Firm Hand, for example, has a Daddy who is a lot younger than his boy. And in Daddy, the first book in the Kinky Boys series that Kyleen Neuhold and I released today, we have a Daddy and boy who are almost the same age. Yet the Daddy is still very much a Daddy, even if he’s not that much older. At the end of the day, it’s about the characters, about the roles of nurturing and needy, about the dynamic between someone who wants to surrender control…and someone who thrives on being in control.

And in Daddy, Daddy Hunter is very much that caring daddy who wants to take care of his boy…not that he’s looking for one right now.
