REVIEW:
This one surprised me on just how much I really, really liked it!
Remy Sean is a Disney Pop Music Super Star! During his last world concert tour, at the concert in Athens, things turned ugly and went very wrong. Now Remy is suffering from severe anxiety and hiding out at his Malibu mansion. But his manager realizes that he needs space and pawns him of on his own estranged son on a secluded horse ranch in Northern California. Jed Riley wants nothing from his father Buddy. Except to finally be rid of him and own the ranch outright. He finally gives in to his fathers request…but only if he agrees to two demands. One is to grant his big sister’s wish for her dad to walk her down the aisle at her wedding. The second is to sign over his portion of the ranch to Jed. When Jed takes on “babysitting” the pop sensation he didn’t realize how damaged he was. He had barely remembered the man when he was last on the ranch back when he was 13. But, when the men finally loosen up and start talking, they realize that the can be friends. When the friend line is pushed by chemistry they realize it is futile to fight it. But what will happen next when one is a giant music superstar and the other just wants to stay on his ranch and raise horses?
One of the biggest things that I liked about this book is that these men pushed the other to open up and talk when things got weird or strained. I am so used to reading books that the angst can be over the top because the main characters refuse to open up with their thoughts and concerns. It was so refreshing and enjoyable to read this book and have mature adults that can voice their needs and opinions.
I got the anxiety part. A traumatic event can trigger all kinds of things you would never guess can surface. In the past, getting on stage was a little bit difficult, until Remy opened his mouth and belted out his first note, then he would just relax into the music. That all came to a screeching halt in Athens. I have no idea how security could have ever allowed that event to occur but it would have rocked even the most confident performer. I loved how Remy moved through his thoughts and decisions on preforming throughout the book. And that Jed was always encouraging him, sometimes at his own personal sacrifice. Jed had always been a good, selfless person for his mom, his sister and her girls. He carried that trait on to Remy. He was never going to hold Remy back even if it broke his heart in the process. That was just the kind of guy he was. He realized who he was and that their lifestyles were in direct conflict with a lasting relationship.
The other thing about this book I absolutely loved was that the author didn’t end the book when these two finally got what they wanted. She took it a step further and showed us what life was like after these two men made their commitment to each other. I can’t say how many times that I have felt and said, after I turned the last page, where the heck is the rest? I had felt like I was left hanging before but not this time. I got several chapters of their lives after most would have ended with the two happy to be making a commitment to each other. That was really awesome.
I really loved this book. It was a good sweet book that gave me just what I wanted and needed. It was the full meal deal and I was tickled to get it! Highly recommend this wonderful book.
