Welcome to Clean Slate Ranch: home of tight jeans, cowboy boots, and rough trails. For some men, it’s a fantasy come true.
Mack Garrett loves the rolling hills surrounding his Northern California dude ranch. Leading vacationers on horse trails with his two best friends is enough – romance is definitely not in the cards. When a sexy tourist shows up at Clean Slate, he’s as far from Mack’s type as can be. So why is the handsome city slicker so far under his skin in less than a day?
Roughing it in the middle of nowhere isn’t anywhere near Wes Bentley’s idea of fun. Then he lays eyes on the gruffest, hottest papa bear he’s ever seen. But Mack is as hard to pin down as he looks – distant, sharp-tongued, and in desperate need of a shave. Until a campout gone wrong strands both men in the mountains with nothing to do but get to know each other.
Mack intends to keep his closely guarded heart out of Wes’ very talented hands. But for a seven-day cowboy, Wes is packing some long-term possibility. The cold country air can do wonders for bringing bodies together – but it will take more than that to bridge the distance between two men whose lives are worlds apart.
REVIEW:
Wild Trail is the first book in the Clean Slate Ranch series and I can’t wait to put my hands or rather my eyes on the next story. A.M. Arthur has created a universe I want to revisit as soon as possible. This is an absolutely intriguing, exciting and entertaining story and I couldn’t put it down.
If I tell you this book reminds me of Shrek, please don’t question my sanity. I explain… so Shrek. One of my favorite scenes from the film is Shrek and his onion theory. And this book, my friends, is a perfect onion with so many layers you wouldn’t believe. The outer layer is simple and the plot-line starts out as many cowboy stories with a group of city folks going on a dude ranch and one falling for a cowboy. Pretty simple, right… not. That’s when the layers are starting to get revealed. Detail by detail. One piece of info by another. And we get into a story where nothing is what it seems. We get a few hot cowboys, right. Yes, sure, but they are also ex SWAT members and a firefighter escaping their own personal demons. We get a ranch that entertains guests on a weekly bases but it also has an intriguing history with a vast land some of which uncharted hiding an absolutely intriguing ghost town, which one of our MCs finds on accident. Exactly. Not your everyday cookie cutter romance novel and characters. That’s for sure.
Wes and Mack are our MCs here but you’ll experience that most secondary characters have major parts in the story and they all are equally important. Every single character is an onion on their own with their own layers to peel back, with their own past tragedies and heartache they have to live with. We witness great friendships, even bigger heartaches and a very unique brotherhood I can’t wait to read more about.
Wes and Mack share some explosive chemistry and their blossoming relationship is very well built with all the great feels coming together to give a promising happily ever after.
When you pick this book up make sure you don’t have anything important to do, because it is impossible to stop reading along the way. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did. Highly recommended.
