REVIEW:

I have to start this review by saying I’m confused as hell about a few things in regard to this current installment of this series. I know this was written as a stand-alone book, but in my opinion it ignores all that went before it. In Book 4, No Matter What, which I just reviewed in May of this year, there were at least 3 gay characters all within Coffin Nails MC. This book approaches it as a totally forbidden subject and states that a full member of the club would be killed because of coming out as gay.

I found that the disconnect in some ways caused me to never buy into the characters in this installment as much as I have in all the other works I’ve read from these two women.  I love their work, and I really liked this current installment, I just didn’t like the total disconnect.

Let’s talk about the story itself. Loki has had a hard life. After having been raped by multiple men, he was carved up with knives and left to die in a shallow grave. When he escaped and recovered, his new boyfriend came home one night and told him he had brain cancer and then went off to do something else. When Loki realized how little the boyfriend actually cared about him to tell him that news and then leave him alone, he fled the house. Well, he actually went off to hook-up with some guy who sent him an awesome dick pic….

The awesome dick turns out to belong to Red Jack, a member of the Coffin Nails MC who thinks there is nothing wrong with getting a quick blowjob once in a while from a guy…after all, a mouth is a mouth, correct? He might have gotten more than he bargained for this time though, as he discovers when he finds Loki in his house the next day!

Where do they go from here? A bad ass biker dude, who isn’t gay (just ask him and he’ll tell you that). A terminally ill gay guy with a dark history and three months to live. Sounds like the perfect couple doesn’t it?? No?

I enjoyed the book, but again I really missed a tie in to previous books. I highly recommend the book on its own though, because as always these women know how to write.  I’m a huge fan boy of their work!
