REVIEW:
When Alec Harper and Preston Gentry were in high school Alec had a major crush on Preston but Preston was a jerk. Except for the night all the graduating seniors who attended their church were having a bonfire, that night Preston chased Alec into the toilets and gave him his first kiss then he gave Alec his first hand job! After that Preston ran back out to the bonfire to his girlfriend and completely shattered Alec’s heart.
Twelve years later and Alec has taken a teaching position at the local college, he’s only been there a couple of months when the football coach comes to see him about changing one of his students grades so he can play ball the following year. When Alec sees exactly who the coach is he can’t believe his bad luck it’s Preston Gentry and he’s even better looking now than he was in high school. When Alec misunderstands what Preston is offering in exchange for a better grade for his ball player that’s what gets Preston thinking and remembering what happened the last time he saw Alec.
Preston had a huge crush on Alec in high school but because he was the star football player he couldn’t possibly be gay. So he dated girls but he never could find one he liked enough that he could even think about falling in love and getting married to. When Preston saw Alec again after so many years he honestly didn’t think anything would happen, after all he was dating Janea regularly, so what if it was just when one of the needed a date rather than because they had deep feelings for each other.
In fact Preston was absolutely terrified because all of his repressed feelings for Alec came roaring back and he started worrying, what if he kissed Alec? OMG, he needed to get married but she wasn’t ready for that! God, he needed a drink! Preston heads off to a bar to have a drink and try to find a woman who attracted him more than Janea. GOD, why did he stop looking at women and start looking at men? More beer! When Alec finds Preston in the bar he’s drunk so he does the right thing and takes him home to bed. When Preston wakes up in the morning he can’t believe what he did the night before, he never gets drunk, OMG, he came onto Alec and Alec turned him down!
And so begins the romance of Preston and Alec, Preston wants to keep everything quiet until he comes to terms with being gay. Several weeks into the relationship and Preston has a meltdown when he sees Alec being kissed by an ex in the coffee shop! He yells at Alec that he has to pretend to be straight in public, he can’t kiss men in public, that people will know that he Preston is gay if they know that Alec is gay! Alec has had enough, he’s gay he has never lied about that, he’s never been in your face about it but he’s never lied. About the only good thing to out of the whole fiasco is that Preston tells Alec he’s falling in love with him. But, he can’t come out until the football season is over. Preston can’t stop thinking about what happened and decides that he’s tired of hiding and he just hopes to hell he can deal with the fallout!
Can’t Hide My Love is a truly sweet gay for you story. I love the fact that Alec is the out and proud geek while Preston is the football player who isn’t quite as straight as he thought. I have no hesitation in recommending this book to everyone who loves to read m/m romance.
