Synopsis

Oliver hesitated outside the door, uncertain whether he should go inside or not. This wasn’t something he’d ever had to deal with before. Geez, most clients didn’t hear from him for at least a week or two after he went out to visit them. And yet here he was, his second visit to Horsfall Ranch on the same day.
Bayard had grabbed his brother and carried him into the big house, striding up the stairs with a muttered plea for Oliver to stay. He’d still been gawking at the display of strength and he wasn’t sure if his reply was a gurgle or a moan but it must have placated Bayard. Now he was stuck here, trying to figure out what to do.
He knocked quietly, knowing he had to get out of here at some point. It seemed rude to just drive off though. He wanted to at least let Bayard know he was leaving.
“Come in, Oliver.”
Opening the door, Oliver poked his head inside the room. It was more bare than he’d been expecting. He didn’t know exactly what he’d thought Marshall’s bedroom would be like but this wasn’t it. Of course, he knew exactly nothing about the man so for all he knew this might fit him to a T.
A low bed sat in the middle of the room across from the door, a mattress set up on a frame without the added height of a box spring. White sheets were draped over the man lying in the bed, his tanned skin standing out in stark relief against the white.
The walls were pale, as were the window curtains. An old fashioned radiator was set against one wall, and the opposite wall held a white dresser.
Bayard was standing at a window beside the radiator, staring outside. He didn’t move when Oliver came in, just remained standing there.
“Look, I should go.”
He didn’t know what else to say to Bayard. The man had to be hurting right now. He looked so helpless before when he’d first spied Marshall lying unconscious in his backseat.
Bayard turned his head, glancing back at Oliver. He didn’t say anything, just stared at him.
Geez, give a guy a complex. Oliver wondered if there was something on his face. He shuffled his feet, leaning against the doorjamb. He kept his gaze on Bayard, refusing to look at the unconscious man in the bed. If he wasn’t mistaken, Marshall still didn’t have any clothes on. At least he hadn’t been able to see any telltale lumps that would indicate something else under that thin white sheet when he’d first looked. A sudden image popped into his mind — the thought of both brothers in bed beside each other, each reaching out to Oliver with a wicked tilt to their lips.
Jesus, he needed to get out of here. “I –“
“Please stay.”
