REVIEW:
This is the second book in the Texas Pride series from Ms. Kindle Alexander, It tells us the love story of Slade Whitaker and Mason Sutton. These two beautiful men are opposites in many ways but somehow when they are in each other’s orbit, they complement and fit each other, although at first glance it might not look that way, but they do.
Slade Whitaker is a Mega movie star but every year he tries to escape the glitz and glamour for a few months of much-needed rest in his West Texas ranch, far away from the relentless paparazzi who follows him around in Hollywood.
Mason Sutton used to be happy and content with his life. Wildflower, his rodeo mare, was his steady comfort until one day when everything was ripped away from him. Now, he goes about his day like someone who has nothing to live for. He helps in his family’s bar and diner and at night, he drinks himself until he feels numb.
When Slade and Mason saw each other for the first time, it was chaotic because Slade was with his friends who were also gay and Wyatt, one of his best friends, also played for Mason’s attention which drove Slade crazy. When his friends left after a few days, Slade came around the bar to get to know Mason more. And they started to spend more time together until their attraction got the best of them and they started to spend more time in Slade’s house. Slade is not out in his world and Mason has never told his family about him being gay as well. And the accident that occurred a few years back was something that will always mar his reputation in his hometown. Although he knows that he was not to blame for the accident, he feels like his hometown blames him. He lost his memory the first few days after the accident and when he remembered everything, the case was already closed and no one was going to do anything about it anymore. So he just kept quiet too.
When things between Slade and Mason started getting serious and the time came for Slade to go back to his glitzy life, Slade made a strict schedule of everything, texting time, weekend time, etc. Each day that passes sees him thinking more and more about coming out and risking it all for the love of his life. He is tired of the constant grind and honestly, he feels like the people who are supposed to be there to help and guide him are not. And he pays them the big bucks for these, so finally he made his decisions with the help of his real friends. When he and Mason visited Austin and Kitt and they saw how successful Austin and Kitt’s personal and business life is, the more they are keen on starting their own lives as well.
When pictures of them started circulating and Slade tries to stop it, he is faced with termination from the series he was in and “his people” started showing their true colors with the exception of two, Tommy and Nico. And when Slade thought that he caused Mason so much grief and misery, he couldn’t even show his face back in Texas for the fear of being rejected by Mason.
I love the fact that when Mason was faced with being outed, his family was there for him and actually, his whole town was with him. It was not a big deal for everyone. It made a big difference for Mason. His family already knew about him being gay, they were just waiting for him to accept it himself. And when his supposed accident’s truth came to light, he was blessed with a better outcome than he ever hoped for. And he feels that this time he owes it to himself and Slade to be with each other as Slade went through so much upheaval with his career and his staff being requested to resign.
In the end. Love is love and it wins. I love it Ms. Kindle Alexander! Congratulations! I am excited for what comes next.
