Javier Rivera is a former model who has set up his own agency now. He wants to try to run a business that looks out for the talent and holds clients to that sane standard. After a year, things are not going well. The latest is a model quitting when there is a gig scheduled. Javier has no choice but to do it himself. It’s humiliating! He’s got to do a Valentines Day themed singing telegram dressed as a cupid for some big wig at a Finance company. UGH! What he doesn’t know is that the model who quit was a friend of the recipient’s ex and the recipient, Desmond, is in no mood for any contact from said ex, Matthew. Things end rather badly and Javier’s humiliation is complete when he ends up looking like a drowned rat when the skies open up as he’s leaving.
Desmond White has really had it. His scheming cheating ex who is under investigation for embezzlement from the SAME company and has been fired just won’t leave it alone. Desmond finally kicked him out after 5 years. Five years of cheating and wheedling and spending Desmond’s money and using him in every way he can. So yeah, he’s very unhappy about this singing telegram thing. But he does feel bad for the cupid – he clearly had no idea what he was walking into. When he sees the man from his car, he has his driver pull over and he offers the man a ride home so at least he doesn’t have to ride the tube home soaking wet and cold.
They end up sharing a bit on the ride home. Desmond is definitely attracted to Javier and he needs a date for a concert that Friday. He asks Javier to be his date and Javier accepts. They exchange numbers and make the arrangements during the week. They attend the concert where Javier deals with obnoxious rich people making assumptions about him. But he’s been in the modeling world half his life, so it’s not like this is new to him. Desmond is embarrassed. Then Matthew shows up and confronts Desmond. He then does something despicable. UGH!
When Desmond becomes ill, Javier stays with him at his home. Which is palatial. But he’s there for Desmond. Desmond is grateful and they end up acting on their attraction and spending the weekend together. The following weekend, they repeat. This goes on for months. But while they are meeting up and enjoying their weekend bubble boyfriend time, they are both hiding things that are not going well in their professional lives. And this is going to be a problem.
When things blow up with Desmond, he runs out and leaves Javier wondering what the hell happened. When he finally finds out – after days – he’s not so much angry as disappointed that Desmond didn’t confide in him. But he realizes that maybe they took their “bubble” too seriously and ignored the real enemies at the gate. They really needed each other and were afraid to be less than perfect and acknowledge when things weren’t working out in their business lives. Thankfully they do have support from other and finally get out of their own way 🙂
I loved this! Javier and Desmond were such a good feet. Their meet horrible was fabulous 😉 The villain in this piece was so hilariously self-involved he really didn’t see things coming which made his comeuppance all the sweeter. Both men were good hearted and they probably both got taken advantage of more than they should, but Javier really just wanted to help Desmond and not bring his own troubles to the relationship. He finaly realized that wasn’t fair to either of them. They truthfully made a great team. I cannot wait to get to the next book. This is a wonderful romance with some humor, heart and spice that I think will satisfy lovers of contemporary romance. Recommended!
