Book four in the Declan Hunt Mysteries series
How far would you be willing to go to keep the one you love?
Charlie Watts has found the perfect partner in Declan Hunt, and he hopes that they can spend the rest of their lives together. But when your boss is sexy and talented, sometimes you’re not the only one who wants to tie him down.
The Attercop, a clever adversary who is good with disguises, starts to spin a web of lies and deceit to get Declan for his very own. And as the two detectives look into a break-in where nothing is taken, and a random beating at a gay bar, their perfect partnership begins to unravel.
Will Charlie be able to stop the worst from happening, or will The Attercop get his wish and take Declan away from Charlie forever?
REVIEW:
Note: This is the fourth book in this series and really doesn’t work as a standalone. The previous books sets the stage for Charlie and Declan, their relationship and the cases they are pursuing. Also I recommend them 😉
Charlie and Declan have settled into their life together – both at and away from work. Well if you can call living in the apartment above the office “away” from work 😉 Things are going pretty well although they could definitely use more cases. When they are offered a personal protection case, Declan turns up his nose, but they need the money and decide Charlie would be a better fit anyway. It’s a college student and Charlie being in his mid-20s can fit in much better than Declan.
Charlie doesn’t much like the subject of his protection, but oh well. It’s a job. In the meantime, an employee at Bar-None, Angel is assaulted while Mickey, the owner was doing a good deed for a regular patron. This is not good. Is it a gay-bashing or something more?
Strange coincidences occur with some mysterious break-ins. And it becomes clear that many things are related and they all lead back to someone who is trying to get Declan’s attention. And not in a good way.
When Declan goes missing and Charlie begins to suspect that he’s been duped, it’s clear that Declan is in trouble. And who knows what will happen if Charlie doesn’t find him in time. No spoilers! You’ll have to read it to find out 🙂
Oh man! This was so good! I found myself speed reading at the end to find out what was going to happen. The suspense was killing me! The overall mystery arc of this story does eventually tie to a long-running theme of this series. There is a lot of relationship growth in this book also with Charlie and Declan both getting to the place where they want to take things to another level. I really enjoyed the evolving relationship each man is trying to have with their respective fathers. Both seems to really struggle with having gay sons. Thankfully both fathers seems to be coming to terms with it 🙂 As usual Mrs. B and Gwen are also there supporting and also kicking both guys in the behind when they need it 😉 Loved the addition of Duck! I hope there are many more stories in this world as I could read about Charlie and Declan for a long time. Well done and highly recommended.
