BLURB:

It’s our first holiday together, and I’m determined to make it special for Lachlan. Only problem? I know zip about how selkies celebrate, so I don’t even know which winter holiday to pick.

With Lachlan out on a fishing charter, I try to tease some suggestions from my friends, but they’re surprisingly unhelpful. And when we get a tip about a Disappeared sighting, my opportunity for more research evaporates. I guess I’ll just have to improvise. Again.

Dammit.

A Very Quest Solstice is a Myth-matched holiday coda which builds on characters and situations from the first four Quest Investigations books. It takes place the month following Death on Denial and is not intended to stand alone.

REVIEW:

Oh what a lovely amuse bouche of a holiday tale 🙂  Matt, aka Hugh Mann, and Lachlan are finally a couple and now it’s their first official holiday season together.  Hugh wants to do something special for Lachlan since they haven’t had a lot of time to celebrate together and this is the perfect opening for him to try to figure out what Lachlan would like.

His coworkers point out that Lachlan spent most of his time in the water and thus the “traditional” holiday trappings – whether human or paranormal – are unlikely to be something he’s thought much about.  Hmmmm.  Hugh/Matt decides to take the advice of his friends and maybe start something new for them?

As Matt is trying to figure out what to do as a surprised for Lachlan who is out on a charter and won’t be back until the following night, he keeps getting diverted by everyone!  Jordan, Elliot, Dup the hellhound, etc. keep trying to keep him focused on other things.  Eventually when he finally gets home, he feels something is amiss and he’s worried about Lachlan 😉  He needn’t have worried 🙂

This was so adorable!  As usual Matt/Hugh is trying to negotiate the world he inhabits and those he doesn’t.  His former crush and his husband and lots of other characters who up to help him and Lachlan.  There are some lovely surprises and plenty of comic relief from Jordan and Dup 😉  It’s a really sweet story perfect for the holidays – or just the holiday spirit 😀

As usual Greg Boudreaux does a beautiful job with this story.  The characters are familiar and consistent.  I love Matt and Lachlan and was so happy to see them getting to enjoy their life together.  Jordan and his werewolves and of course Dup keep things lively.  The other friends and colleagues add just the right extra bit of fun and misdirection and I loved how funny they were trying to keep Hugh from wrecking the surprises ahead.  Well done.  Love this series and could listen to this narrator forever telling these fun stories.  Another great marriage of author and narrator.  Recommended.
