When the game ends, the real play begins

In the high-stakes world of professional football, rookie quarterback Nico Fallon is a rising star with everything to prove. Drafted to fill the shoes of a legend, he’s brash, cocky, and desperate for validation, chasing a dream that might not even be his own. But when his new coach turns out to be the retired icon Cooper Callahan, the tension surges into the red zone—dangerous, unstoppable, and impossible to call back.

The stoic, unbreakable coach pushes Nico harder than anyone ever has. On the field, the tutelage pays dividends. Off the field, charged glances and heated proximity ignite something forbidden beneath a carefully crafted facade. Every command, every “good boy,” pulls Nico deeper into stolen moments and risky encounters.

Cooper returned to the game to coach, not to relive his ghosts, and absolutely not to want the infuriating rookie who’s everything he shouldn’t desire. Haunted by loss and buried secrets, he fights to keep his walls intact, using control as armor. Yet Nico’s defiance and surrender chip away at him, tempting him toward a fire that could burn everything he’s built… including the fragile life he’s clinging to.

In a world where every play is watched and secrets don’t stay buried, forbidden desire races toward the end zone. But when the lines between coach and player blur, who scores and who gets sacked?

Red Zone Heat is an MM romance set in the professional world of football. A secret, forbidden relationship that spans years instead of months, and filled to the brim with angst and longing. Red Zone Heat is perfect for fans of Heated Rivalry and for anyone who can never get enough of grumpy/sunshine.

REVIEW:

This new-to-me author found a way under my skin and into my heart.

Cooper Callahan lost the love of his life in a horrible accident that never should have happened. Luke was everything to him. His entire world. Well football was too but Luke was also his teammate. Along with Luke’s Twin sister Stassi they also had the perfect relationship. All living in the house together was the perfect cover. Because being out and together in the NFL was never going to be possible. Instead they lived in a gilded cage. But that accident cost him more than just the outward scars on his body. It cost him his heart and soul. When the rookie, Nico Fallon, brought in to takeover Cooper’s starting position of quarterback when he suddenly retired early needs guidance and the team needs him he can’t say no. But how much more can he give?

This is a very long and angst filled journey. The book spans a time period of almost 8 years. It captures how much elite athletes have to endure in order to shine properly for their adoring fans. Because fans are fickle. One moment you are the best thing there is and they adore you. But make one wrong move or go against the norm and they are posting pictures of burning your jersey in disgust. Because male toxicity and homophobia run rampant in the fans. And sometimes your teammates. Cooper warned Nico of this and Nico took it to heart. He entered that same cage and kept quiet about himself and their unique relationship. Because call it what you want but those men were in a relationship. However ghosts and public opinion ruled over it. But those stolen snippets of time were all they had.

Cooper’s obsession with Like was unhealthy. He blames himself for that accident but Luke was just as much at fault. And Cooper could never let him go. But, just like that shrine, it was all hidden from all. He could never acknowledge the true love he had. And how that loss shattered his heart.

Nico had the patience of a saint. He knew deep down he could never compete for Cooper’s heart with a ghost and win. Luke would always be apart of Cooper. And Stassi actually helped facilitate that. But Nico also knew what it was like competing with a ghost. Hell, his career choice was to carry on a dream wasted by brother, for his father. A father that he never measured up to like Elon. Which was stupid. Because Elon was reckless and stupid and cost himself everything.

It was hard at times to keep reading this rollercoaster of a  story. It tugged at my heart every time Cooper dismissed Nico when he was done with him. The damage he was doing was awful. Yes, he had some good moments. Moments like the camping trip, where they could be real and let their guard down. Where he genuinely cared for Nico and let it show. But he had to have known that Nico was completely in love with him and, in my own opinion, abused that power. It was hard to witness that level of torture that Nico willingly endured to have those brief snippets with the man he loved.

I am looking forward to Matteo’s story next.
