What fantasy to use? One starring Roman, no doubt. Perhaps in the dining room, pretending to stumble across his host who waited there, hoping Carter would attend to his other appetites. Would that be too pathetic?

Not at all.

The words echoed through Carter’s mind, as if Roman had spoken them. He shivered despite the blanket covering him to the neck.

Please, go on.

Aroused by the unexpected addition of a voiceover to his fantasy, Carter imagined the setting with his usual eye for detail. Drue gone. Dishes removed. The only trace of elegance left in the formal Victorian dining room, a pair of silver candelabras in the center of the long table. The flames atop the half burned tapers soaked the room in a warm orangey glow, dripping lines of white wax onto the damask cloth.

Carter added himself, sitting in Roman’s chair, arms spread wide the way his host had done. He glanced down to see he wore a pair of old, ragged jeans, nothing else. Not the attire he would have picked for a seduction scene.

Leave it be. I like seeing you this way.

Again with the realistic sound effects, projecting Roman’s voice into a realm where he couldn’t possibly be. Odd. Surreal. Then again, so much of the night had been. Why start fighting it now?

Carter drew Roman into the scene. He stood between Carter’s knees, against the edge of the sturdy table. His hands rested in the pockets of his corduroy pants. A lightweight cashmere sweater covered his torso, rich cocoa to match the color of his hair. His head was cocked at a slight angle.

Here we are, now what?

The easy way would be to throw himself at Roman. Hot, quick and oh, so satisfying. The long route of tantalizing foreplay before the main event had its advantages too.
