This is my final regular monthly blog post at Love Bytes. Thanks to everyone who has read, and commented, and to Dani for hosting. I’ll pop in when I have a new release.
My sale book this month, Double Exposure, is the book I wrote during lockdown. I shoved my edits on repubs to one side and took advantage of a long stretch of uninterrupted writing time and went for it.
I’d always wanted to set a supernatural story in Wellington, and with Ben, one of the MCs of Shades of Sepia, book 1 of The Sleepless City series I wrote with Elizabeth Noble, being from here, it made sense for him and Simon to head back to New Zealand to meet the inlaws. I had a lot of fun reimaging my hometown with a hidden paranormal community, including a real estate firm run by the local werewolf pack, and an English Lit professor at Victoria University being a vampire.
Of course, Ben and Simon’s visit soon finds them investigating supernatural murder and mayhem, with some help from old and new friends.
As an added fun fact, when I wrote the story I thought we needed a community library in Maungaraki, a suburb on one of our western hills, so I wrote one, with a librarian werewolf. Eighteen months later, guess what happened? A library opened down the road from where I picked the location for mine. The librarian isn’t a werewolf though…

Double Exposure
Pōneke Shadows Book 1
Vampires and werewolves live long lives. The Sleepless City saga might have ended but the story continues…
Someone is hunting supernaturals.
Vampire Simon Hawthorne and his human partner Ben Leyton’s plans for a peaceful holiday with family are hijacked by the New Zealand Supernatural Council.
Tensions are on the rise in Wellington. Supernatural councillors are disappearing. Werewolves are suspicious of anyone human or vampire. If they don’t work together, their enemy has already won.
And no one with a connection to the supernatural world is safe.
I’d love to keep in touch! I have a readers group and/or you can sign up for my newsletter. Elizabeth Noble and I also have a Facebook group for our paranormal shared world, The Sleepless City and a website.
