Piece of Cake by Beth bolden

awww I loved Andrew and Marco! This sweet short tale from Beth Bolden was just heartwarming, low angst, spicy goodness.

I adore the he grew up hot trope… and this one did it perfectly. Marco is struggling because of blurring the lines between being charming and leading them on and he has lost yet another dessert chef at Nonna’s his steakhouse. Serendipitously Andrew, the erstwhile gangly teen could be the best fit for a shirt term assignment.. except he isn’t gangly or a teen anymore and the attraction is out of control. These two towed all the lines and worked through a bit of baggage but all in all it’s low drama. While the way it wrapped up was really sweet, I did feel it lost a bit of steam mid way, sort of slowing down and then suddenly jumping towards the giving in then slowing down again and then suddenly its the declarations. This did impact my enjoyment of it a little bit.

Hot Dish by Annabeth Albert

Review by Kat

I am a fan of Annabeth Albert and love revisiting the Pacific Northwest, especially my native Oregon. Turns out this story is part of a whole Mount Hope universe that is set in a fictitious town in the stunning Columbia River gorge. I can easily see both Hood River and The Dalles as inspiration for the fictitious town. And I can’t wait to dive into more of this wonderful series.

I loved that both Stu, a single father/art teacher/artist of two high schoolers, and Perry, a paramedic for the local fire station, were cautious from the beginning. Stu had to make sure he protected himself and his kids from any fall out. And Perry needed time to learn to trust again. What started as neighbors eyeing each other quickly became friends-with-benefits. But  it was instantly obvious that the chemistry between both these men was as smoking hot as was the slight power exchange dynamic during sexy times that ignited this story! And there are A LOT of hot sexy times in this short story/novella.

I also really enjoyed that the “food element” of this particular story was Stu’s youngest child, his daughter’s Shelby’s new fascination with creating new food dishes from binge watching cooking shows. I will admit that is a not-so-secret passion of mine too. I loved that she started creating local Hawaiian dishes for her dad in honor of his youth growing up on Oahu, where I now live, and their passion for Loco Moco, a favorite island dish!

Big thumbs up for me and can’t wait to read more of this universe.

Office Indulgence by Katherine McIntyre

This one is so cute!
Henry is an engineer and he’s got a secret admirer.  One who keeps leaving exquisite chocolates on his desk with little notes in the morning in his cubicle.  He’s going crazy trying to figure out who it is.  He’s tried and failed to suss out the perpetrator.  He and his fellow engineers are trying to help him – or are they.
Henry isn’t the smoothest and he’s maybe not going about this the right way.  But he’s determined to find the culprit!  Then he gets a clue and realizes he’s not really been paying attention!  What he wanted was right there in front of him all along 🙂
This was really adorable.  I loved Henry and his hilarious attempts to try to trick the admirer into giving himself away.  It’s cute and sweet and funny and steamy 🙂  Also those chocolates sound amazing!

Rumbledethumps by Sebastion Sharpe

Review by Cheryl K.

Ok, this is my favorite read of the week.

I love a well written story about the two characters driven apart by homophobic family members, reuniting. With the death of his grandfather, David is traveling home for the will reading.  Unbeknownst to him his ex-husband, Kelly, will also be there, as he was included in the will, as well.

Kelly is so in love with his husband that he makes the ultimate sacrifice, trying to ensure David’s status within his family, he divorces him.  As it turns out David’s grandfather is the only family member that truly understands David and accepts him as a gay man.

When Liam parses out what Kelly gave up to “help” David, he sets out to fix that sacrifice upon his death. Sebastion created a world so special and intense in this short story, that I was left wanting more – I wanted to see Davids family truly suffer.

This story had it all for me, snark, love, forgiveness, karma and tear-jerking scenes.  As my first time reading a Sebastion Sharpe story, I loved it, and I know you will too.
