REVIEW:
This is a sweet Hallmark-style small town romance with all the warm, fuzzy feels you come to expect in this delightful series.
Chris Asbell is realizing his dream of becoming a small town librarian. He jumped at the chance to go to Crawford City and establish one there. He knew he had his work cut out for him but he has never been shy about work, an ethic passed down to their only child by his loving parents. When they all go to visit Crawford City together Chris is floored to meet one of the stars of Talented Citizens, the singing competition reality show that he and his parents watched all the time. Chris thinks Roth Gallo should have won and everyone he knows believed the same. Roth is still reeling from not only going to the final two in the competition but now offered a recording deal and one of the best in the PR business is willing to take him on personally. So up to Crawford City drives Roth to meet Jake McCartney. When a chance meeting of the two happens there are sparks in the air but Chris can’t believe the new star would even look at a small town librarian let alone be interested!
This is a tad bit more angsty that most of this series. I get where Chris and Roth are living totally different lives. And, although they both are basically a stay at home and swing on the the porch swing type of young men, Roth is pushing his own personal boundaries to do what he loves to do…SING! Even though it really challenges his stage fright to the max. Also Chris really embraces all of living in the small town vibes. Big city lights and activities just aren’t him. He’s cautious and slow to move on big time things like falling for music stars. But underneath it all the two men really do fit well together even though on the surface it doesn’t seem like any kind of match at all. Author Blake Allwood woven a complete story that showed that what seems like an impossible fit truly formed to a life that bound them together to be made whole.
I love Crawford City and all the small town noses that get up in your business. It warms your heart to see how much all these townspeople care about even the newbies to their town. You are adopted right in like you lived there all your life. I loved how even Chris’s parents became an intricate part of the town. It didn’t surprise me that Doc and Amos basically pulled Chris under their wing. And Roth was a given because of his connection to Jake. I especially loved getting to see how important the library was coming to their town and seeing it become a hub of activity.
I really have fallen hard for this sweet, low heat, no sex series and long to visit Crawford City and it’s wonderful and accepting townspeople again soon.
