REVIEW:
Húlí is a nine-tailed shifter fox, and on the run for his life, after being betrayed by a friend, he’s been hunted by the King’s guards. By a miracle, he finds shelter at Xiăo Ying’s home.
Xiăo Ying is a big quiet man, a healer, lonely after his family was slaughtered. These days his main purpose is to find those murderers and bring them to justice.
Húlí is broken, lonely, and unloved without family, Húlí has only one good friend, Ling Ling.
By coincidence, if that even exists, Ling Ling has to call in a healer for Húlí and yes it’s Xiăo Ying.
Húlí and Xiăo Ying have more in common than you could guess. One of them is to seek justice.
We got four main characters, Húlí the seducer, Xiăo Ying the healer, besides then there’s Ling Ling the tiny but oh-so-strong female warrior, and Yè Yǐng the stray dog. All with their own uniqueness.
Without going too deep into the plot line I can tell, their journey to seek answers to their questions and bring justice, has a lot of events and revelations, there’s also fun, and even a romance, a sweet one.
The Asian environments gave this read an amazing vibe, to be honest, I was a bit reluctant with all the names, (I’m bad with names) but it was quite doable. There are a lot of foreign words, and even with the glossary it was confusing, so I just accepted the fact I didn’t understand it all completely. I tried with Translate, there were many different languages I found, Vietnamese, Chinese, Azerbaijani, Uzbek, Haitian, Hausa, and Yoruba. But…. maybe I was just looking in the wrong way.
Still, it was a fascinating eventful story, super captivating, entertainingly written, with beautiful magical environments and corresponding explanations, the characters were wonderfully portrayed. The whole story altogether was a joy to read, a great experience!
