Mr. Romance by Louisa Masters
Franklin University Series, Book 3
When you’re clueless, Mr. Romance can help.
Charlie
I’m not sure how it happened, but it turns out I’ve unknowingly been dating three people.
Friends don’t spoil other friends, apparently. My trust fund means I can afford to, though, and what’s a meal here and there? Or some clothes? Or textbooks? That doesn’t mean we’re dating, right?
Others disagree. If I want to get through the rest of college knowing who my friends are, I need help from someone who knows all about dating and can tell me what not to do.
Someone like Mr. Romance.
Liam
When people look at me, romance is the last thing they think of… but I’m still the first person they call. Need a first date planned? A big romantic moment? Gotta beg for forgiveness? I’m your man. When it comes to romance, I’ve got it handled.
Not personally, though. My romantic life is… barren. All I really want is someone to snuggle with and spoil me. What I’ve got is planning dates for people who have no clue about romancing someone.
But now I’m somehow Charlie Martin’s anti-romance consultant. Charlie, who’s completely clueless yet the most accepting and friendly person I’ve ever met. Who’s giving and generous. Who’s befriended me and wants me to be happy.
I’m supposed to help him stop his friends from falling for him. The last thing I need is to fall for him myself.

“Seriously, man, what’s going on with you?” Jake’s eyeing me with what looks like real concern.
“Nothing.”
“Hey, Charlie.”
I startle, banging my leg on the table, then scramble out of the booth. “Liam! Hey.” Fuck, now what? “Uh, have you met Jake? Jake, this is Liam.”
Jake’s face says he thinks I’m insane, but he smiles at Liam and gives him an up-nod. “Hey. Grab a drink and join us.”
“Thanks. Can I get you guys another round?”
“I’m good,” Jake says politely.
“Soda? I’ll come with. Sure you don’t want another?” I ask Jake. “My treat.” The words are out before I can stop them, and I don’t need Liam’s small sigh to know they’re a mistake. Things like this are why people think I’m dating them. And in Jake’s case, I can’t even say he needs the financial boost—his family has almost as much money as mine.
But I can’t exactly take it back.
Thankfully, Jake declines. He’s got an early class tomorrow, so he’ll probably stick to one. I follow Liam to the bar, and we wait patiently for Gwen to finish up with a group of half-drunk, squealing sorority girls.
“So, could you tell?” I ask in a low voice, drumming my fingers on the bar.
He side-eyes me. “Could I tell from his greeting if he’s into you? No. Relax, will you?”
I huff a big gust of air. “I need my friends, man. I’m a people person. Wondering who I can be myself with is killing me.”
“What can I get you boys?” Gwen interrupts before he can say anything, and we order—soda for both of us. I don’t know if he doesn’t have a fake ID or just doesn’t feel like drinking tonight.
Back at the booth, a girl I vaguely recognize is talking to Jake. She smiles at us. “Hi, Charlie.”
“Uh, hey. How’s it going?” I shift from one foot to the other, wishing she’d go away so Liam can use his romance radar on Jake.
“Great, thanks.” She fake giggles, which has to be the most annoying sound in the world. “I’d love a drink.”
“Oh. Uh—”
“I’ll get it for you,” Liam offers, putting down his soda but staying standing. He smiles at the girl, but it’s not the same smile as when he met Jake.
She eyes him up and down, then says, “Thanks, but I think I’ll get it myself. My friends are waiting.” Turning to me, she smiles wide. “See you later, Charlie. Jake.” She saunters off.
Jake watches her go, then raises a brow at me. “What was that?” he asks.
“She was kinda rude,” I add. “Who is she again?”
Jake laughs as I slide into the booth and Liam sits beside me. “Charlie, sometimes I wonder how you don’t accidentally walk into the ocean, the way you miss things. That’s Danae, remember? She flirted with you all freshman year, and you never noticed.”
She did? “I didn’t accidentally date her, did I?”

About the Author:
Louisa Masters started reading romance much earlier than her mother thought she should. While other teenagers were sneaking out of the house, Louisa was sneaking romance novels in and working out how to read them without being discovered. She’s spent most of her life feeling sorry for people who don’t read, convinced that books are the solution to every problem. As an adult, she feeds her addiction in every spare second, only occasionally tearing herself away to do things like answer the phone and pay bills.
Louisa has a long list of places first discovered in books that she wants to visit, and every so often she overcomes her loathing of jet lag and takes a trip that charges her imagination. She lives in Melbourne, Australia, where she whines about the weather for most of the year while secretly admitting she’ll probably never move.
